Signs of our times Mk 2: Sept 9

Dan Andrews, Victorian Premier giving yet another daily COVID-19 update as he's done every day. No wonder he looks exhausted, he's in difficult position caught between economic and health imperatives, ie between a rock and a hard place. He's doing a good job under impossible conditions IMO. Apologies for the image quality, it's a screenshot and clearly not my photo. Before anyone comments on Dan's hair, it's a wonder he has any left, and do remember all hairdressers/barbers in Melbourne are closed.
What an amazing man doing an impossible job

Yep - a real hard job to keep the balance and front up each day with the updates.
September 9th, 2020
He is doing the best he can under difficult circumstances as I think they all are - the bickering between Federal and State is becoming ridiculous
September 9th, 2020
I feel so sorry for him, he always looks as though he is going to cry when I see him on TV.

You wouldn't want to be a politician at the moment whatever side you are on would you. You are damned if you do and you are damned if you don't.
September 9th, 2020
Well said Marnie, between a rock and a hard place ....
September 9th, 2020
Such difficult times for politicians in charge whatever side they are on they are having to make impossible decisions.
September 9th, 2020
It's certainly not a job that I'd want.
September 9th, 2020
I feel the same about poor old Boris, he can't do right for doing wrong
September 9th, 2020
He looks like he's carrying a huge weight on his shoulders.
September 10th, 2020
A true leader, shows concern for others. May his burden be lessened soon, stay safe
September 10th, 2020
@777margo He sure is Margo, I just wish ScoMo and Co would get off his back.
September 10th, 2020
@dide Incredibly hard, and Dan did the same during the summer bushfires too. Very little time beween them and covid, the poor man's exhausted.
September 10th, 2020
Yes, I wish everyone would get of his back too - it is a difficult job and he has done it well and with a great deal of humility and care for the Victorians.
September 10th, 2020
@onewing You got it in one, on both counts Babs. It's heads you lose, and tails you don't win for the serious pollies when they're not just playing politics. With a single exception everyone we've spoken to, regardless of their political leanings, are strongly supportive of Dan, as is the vast majority of Vics. The exception was someone who has a business that's causing pain. People down here are not impressed by ScoMo and Co playing politics and going for Dan.
September 10th, 2020
@pamknowler Absolutely impossible. Although, that said, surely health, and life itself, must outrank economic concerns for the time being.
September 10th, 2020
@momamo Sure is, he can't do both things at once in our current circumstances.
September 10th, 2020
@merrelyn Not for quids!!!
September 10th, 2020
@fbailey Yep, he's in the same boat. And when he did give in a bit to the open-things-up mob the virus responded quickly. Health and life itself must be the top priority till we have some kind of handle on this wretched thing.
September 10th, 2020
@taffy He is, poor man. Very, very strong support from Victorians despite huge sympathy for the businesses which are doing it very hard. Many will not recover post-covid. The really sad thing is that the bipartisan support that existed during the first wave has evaporated and our federal government has resumed playing politics. Dan Andrews is from the ALP (Australian Labor Party) while the Prime Minister and the government is from the Liberal Party (right-wing). Scott Morrison, commonly known as ScoMo, and his mates have been really getting stuck into Dan. Purely political in most Vics opinion and not winning him too many friends down here.
September 10th, 2020
@jeneurell Thanks for your support Jennifer. The feds are playing very dirty now, extremely disappointing. We've got quite enough to deal with down here without them playing politics. Dan's got huge support from people right across almost all of the political spectrum.
September 10th, 2020
@annied Bloody dirty, below the belt politics IMO Annie. Dan has strong support regardless of most people's politics. We have quite enough to deal with down here without this rubbish.
September 10th, 2020
I see there has been a vigorous discussion going on. I wonder how much sleep Dan Andrews gets, and what of his poor family? They must be worried about him and how long can he can keep up with this stress.
September 10th, 2020
At least he cares, unlike some leaders I know...
September 10th, 2020
our premier was so disliked when he came to office because he made moves that were not very popular with the people. but when COVID-19 started, he was, like the prime minister, really tough with implementing the measures the medical people recommended. and i admire him for that. he doesn't seem to have lost weight though (he's on the heavy side) but you can see the stress in his demeanor and face. i think most public leaders have stressed on this crisis and for the most part they're doing a great job. can't say the same thing though about that one world leader whose name shall remain unsaid here. 😂 kudos to your premier!
September 10th, 2020
It's a tough road for the powers that be to walk. Seems that no matter what they do, it's wrong.
September 10th, 2020
He's in such a tough spot - but really stepping up to do what he sees as his job. I admire him for his attitude. :)
