It's over …

The shearers have moved on, the shed's empty, the last locks swept up, the last bale pressed, the board scrubbed with hot water and normal farm life resumes. Shearing's over -- until lamb-shearing time.
Awesome shot

Glad you posted this. I have only seen shearing sheds in documentaries, but just love looking at what goes on - all the more so after I became a hand spinner

Great shot - looks clean enough to eat off the floor!

@ethelperry I've spent more time in shearing shed than I care to admit. They're usually hot, always noisy, ultra-busy and smell strongly of sheep. I was the rousie for years, i.e. responsible for picking up the shorn fleece, throwing it on to the wool table, keeping the board clean i.e. sweeping up the clippings near the shearer's stand, and getting back to the wool-table to skirt the fleece before the next shearer finished - usually long before you were ready. Utterly dreadful, very tiring work at a pace imposed by the shearers' skills. Those funny looking things on the far end of the wool table are used to pick up the odd bits of wool or, if the shearers are working really fast for someone unskilled in throwing fleeces to pick up the shorn fleece and get it off the board so the shearer can get on with the next on. Shearers are, of course, paid by the number of sheep they shear.

@voiceprintz Thanks JT, I've spent far too much time in shearing sheds for my liking.

@dide Maybe, but everything still stinks of sheep and the board is permanently sogged-up with landline from the wool.

@golftragic Wow, I feel tired after just reading that, Marnie. What a tower of energy you were in that shed.
