Desolation by graemestevens

Desolation

I spent the day with a Safety Specialist today and as a result had no time for a photo, so this is a filler. It also sums up the state of my mind after a day spent with said Safety Specialist who insisted on talking at me passionately about ear plugs, dust masks, boots and overalls...a near desolate wasteland. There was a point in the day when I briefly considered sitting on a rusty garden implement just to liven things up somewhat.
holy crap - I am a tad tired - had infants children today - and I saw your name and a sunflower taking up my screen - I slid from the lounge concerned you may have had an episode - imagine my relief when I realised I need to look above for your image - and there it was in all its desolation - phew!

@annied So...I now have the ability disturb people through photos that aren't even mine. Do you know, I never fail to impress myself...I'm pleased you recovered so quickly though and glad you like it.

Love the way you describe the Safety Specialist talking 'at me'!!
Lovely shot - the presentation suits the theme of your day.

Health & Safety...the bane of most peoples lives!! We always laugh when we see TV reporters interviewing people wearing hard hats.....I think your photo sums your day up pretty well!
July 24th, 2014
@dide Thanks very much...it was definitely at me because my mind kept wandering off to its happy place.
@happypat You're not wrong there, they take the fun out of everything! And thanks very much.

@graemestevens I used to like the good ol' days when there were things called accidents - nowadays someone was lax in the safety department

Definite desolation here, can understand your feelings. Great image in B&W :-)
July 24th, 2014
hi Graeme...enjoying your photos and find you sure have a remarkable style...your.desolation panorama is a ripper....thanks again for your follow....cheers john

Hahaha...Cracking filler Graeme and hilarious narrative.
July 24th, 2014
Awesome panoramic shot.
July 24th, 2014
so good , this one could go on the wall
July 24th, 2014
That is desolate - your cropping and processing made it special. Well done. Hope you have a better day today!

Your image sums up the desolation. Health ans Safety drives me bonkers. Now children can't play 'conkers' in less they wear safety goggles; or make a slide on a frosty morning in case they fall, how limiting, but then I'm on my high horse
July 24th, 2014
Great shot! Does not matter where in the world you are health and safety officers are all the same.
July 24th, 2014
That does look desolate, like a fire went through or something. Amazing what some people can be expert on...in my Air Force days as a young airman, I was given hangar cleanup duty once. The in-charge guy walked me around the hangar for a good thirty minutes schooling me on the differences between pigeon and owl droppings. I'm like, who cares, don't I have to pick them both up?

@annied I know, they suck all the fun out of life then spend the day pointing fingers...sigh. Maybe they need more booze!
@hermann Thanks very much :)
@tellefella Thanks very much, much appreciated!
@davie Thanks very much - I have to spend today with him as well!!!
@andy3168 thanks very much
@pittcj17 Wow, thanks a lot!
@lynnilou Thanks very much - I do to, but I have today with him too!
@ceilidh I agree completely - never had it when I was growing up and I'm quite normal... ;)
Thanks very much :)
@bigugly Oh. A poo specialist...sometimes I think people spend the day thinking up job titles and specialities just for the sake of getting a bigger business card! This was taken near the tree line on Mount Egmont where everything struggles to grow, so no fire...but maybe that's a good idea for a shot! ;)

I find repeatedly bashing my forehead against a wall more satisfying than trying to talk to safety types. Of course I would be equipped with a bump hat, safety glasses, gloves and would have carried out the risk assessment and method statement first.
July 24th, 2014
love how your title so matches the upload....awesome shot too btw
and sitting on a rusty garden implement is not a very safe thing to do.
July 24th, 2014
Definitely feels like desolation, very moody and atmospheric!
July 24th, 2014
@chippy1402 That could work just as well - the paperwork we have to fill out for something as simple as a broken nail at work is incredible. It's slowly driving me (more) insane
@livvy Thanks very much - and you're right, but it would certainly wake me up!
@roseolivia Thanks very much, it was freezing cold the day I took this as well, which just added to the feeling
July 24th, 2014
Love the composition and thanks for the safety specialist to expose this shot rather than let it forgotten in the dark space somewhere in the hard drive
July 24th, 2014
I love this Graeme FAV
July 24th, 2014
@yaorenliu Thanks - I'll pass that on to him... ;)
@tracelee Thanks very much

My year is one great big filler. I shoot a few times a week and filler up the rest of the time. Even when I shoot, I usually don't post the day of. Love the grittiness and overall mood here. Fab shot!
July 25th, 2014
@amandal Thanks very much - I don't often have to use a filer (one of the lucky few I guess)
July 25th, 2014
@graemestevens I'm in my 3rd year and feel a little freer to do what I want the longer I go.
July 25th, 2014
@amandal Fair point - I dare say I'll get to that as well!
July 25th, 2014
Great depiction of pure boredom
July 25th, 2014
@eyeamlisa Thanks - he's just left as well, so I'm all happy again!
July 25th, 2014
I hear you, we have our very own safety specialist who's agenda is making our procedures so onerous and cumbersome, our customer service is suffering. We will certainly be safe if we go broke. He might not be though! :)
The desolation in your image makes it very intriguing.
July 25th, 2014
@tomtom thanks. Wry much. It's been an agonising two days. I've never been so bored or had my should sucked out so quickly
July 25th, 2014
Superb shot, and although you don't say so, another one for the Stephen King series - 'Desolation' is one of my favourites of his titles.
July 26th, 2014
@vignouse Good point, and thanks very much
July 26th, 2014
It's certainly a very moody shot Graeme, and certainly evocative of a desolate and generally ungruntled mood.
July 26th, 2014
@golftragic thanks very much - as I recall it was bleedin' cold as well!
July 26th, 2014
@graemestevens Sure looks bleeding' cold.
July 26th, 2014
lookin' good as a panorama.
July 27th, 2014
@blueberry1222 thanks very much
July 27th, 2014
Sam
I've never dealt with a Safety Specialist before but I can only assume that I would fail every process that I was supposed to follow. I'm not good with OH&S!
July 29th, 2014
@gigiflower It was so very, very dull!!!
July 29th, 2014
Love the silhouettes and different trees!
July 30th, 2014
@harbie Thanks very much
July 30th, 2014
I hope you were wearing a high-vis jacket and safety goggles to take this - you can never be too careful.
July 31st, 2014
@dh Safety first and all that...I was fully clothed if that helps
