Dentistry by graemestevens

Dentistry

While I realise that "Dentistry" is a somewhat bizarre title for this photo, it was taken 15 minutes before my dental appointment. I had hoped that a view like this prior to my appointment would help to soothe my nerves, slow my rapidly beating heart (yes, I have one) and assist in getting me "in the zone". Alas, by the time I had taken this shot a cold dread had settled in the pit of my stomach and I could feel the bile rising as a cold sweat broke upon my brow. Never the less, I summoned the courage to climb into that particular chair and, as usual, lay with my jaw clenched tightly in the anticipation of imminent pain. Sure enough, the dentist promptly stabbed me in the thigh thereby inducing me to open my mouth as wide as humanly possible, at which point she mercilessly rammed her latex clad hands into the presented orifice and began to rummage around like a bargain hunter at a thrift sale, all the while trying to sustain a polite (if one sided) conversation. My battle was lost - defeated and vulnerable I could only lie there and drool down my cheek...
So beautiful and well realize. Good job GraemeI Will we have a dentist on fire tomorrow?
August 5th, 2014
@daneau Thanks very much - If I had my way, yes you would have a dentist on fire. Apparently it's illegal and they charge more than usual though...
August 5th, 2014
A view like this would ease my dental visit, that's for sure!
August 5th, 2014
Man that is one big tooth. You get it pulled? Great scene. Man, your dentist sounds brutal!
August 5th, 2014
@voiceprintz It does the trick - normally. We have a very similar view from our garden as well. It's a hard life.
@amandal Not brutal at all...they do know that I'm not keen on dentistry though...
August 5th, 2014
I'm a weirdo that likes going to the dentist. It's relaxing to me. And I love that happy gas!:)
August 5th, 2014
@amandal I don't know what to say to that...you like it? How bizarre ;)
August 5th, 2014
@graemestevens I get to lay down during the day and don't have to deal with my kids. It's like a mini vacation...and the gas, love that gas:). Just kidding, haven't had that stuff since I was a kid.
August 5th, 2014
@amandal I wish they'd offer me gas...
August 5th, 2014
Sam
I love going to the dentist so I understand @amandal feelings! I think I have a crush on my HOT dentist tho.........you should develop one for your lovely dentist as it always helps :)
August 5th, 2014
@gigiflower Damnit, I want a hot dentist. Mine is old and fat.:)
August 5th, 2014
@graemestevens Just ask for the gas. Tell them you NEED it. They will give it to you.
August 5th, 2014
Wow, I would trade an eyetooth to see that place! Maybe go for the laughing gas, if there is a next time.
August 5th, 2014
@gigiflower I couldn't possibly - there are only certain people who are allowed in mouth and she is not one of them.
@amandal I do get numbing gel...it seems to work, and she's actually very good but I still an't bring myself to "like" the experience. Neither can my wallet.
August 5th, 2014
@tammyputney I go every three months, so in a way I bring it on myself...and yes, "my" mountain is pretty cool
August 5th, 2014
love the view
August 5th, 2014
@graemestevens, I hope you end up with a million dollar smile to go along with that million dollar view of yours :)
August 5th, 2014
@pittcj17 Thanks very much :)
August 5th, 2014
@tammyputney I can't afford dentures yet... ;)
August 5th, 2014
@graemestevens it sounds like she should be paying you for all that abuse! She won't see this, right?
August 5th, 2014
@tammyputney Maybe I should charge her for emotional trauma...and no, tis is quite safe. I think.
August 5th, 2014
What a gorgeous view!!! That would certainly relax me. I don't mind having my teeth cleaned, but I sure do HATE having a cavity filled. Dread it, with a capital D. And I also hate when he asks questions when his hand is stuffed in my mouth. Once again, your commentary made me laugh - thanks!
August 5th, 2014
love the perspective with the city in the foreground
August 5th, 2014
Fantastic view and photo....here we have something advertised as sedation dentistry offered by places with names like cloud nine...being cynical I would expect to wake up with my wallet gone among other indignities :)
August 5th, 2014
Good thing I read stuff. LOL I was trying to figure out if somehow it resembled teeth!! LOL Thought you lost it, Graeme!!! hahah. Another GREAT photo!!! :)
August 5th, 2014
That gorgeous mountain.....and dentist visits not a favourite of mine either, hope it was painless and quick.
August 5th, 2014
perhaps the post-dental visit drool shot is in order.... beautiful hill you got there! ;-)
August 5th, 2014
I just hate the dentist!...but l really like this shot! Beautiful!!
August 5th, 2014
Pure awesomness
August 5th, 2014
I am off to the dentist tomorrow, no view like that for me. Great capture!
August 5th, 2014
Hysterical narrative...may send it to my nephew...a dentist just starting his own practice. His goal in life is he wants people to love going to the dentist -- you seem like a real challenge to that goal!!
August 5th, 2014
a fav! the image is beautiful but the words mirror my exact emotions and thoughts when I visit the dentist - as a teenager I admit to telling my orthodontist I hated him - when my braces were removed - and that I hoped to never see his horrid face again - he was a horrible man with an upside down smile that looked like an evil leer when he was looking over you
August 5th, 2014
actually the peak looks a bit like a tooth that needs work hahahaha
August 5th, 2014
Haha, very funny narrative. Worst part of the dental visit is paying the exorbitant bill, but then again if I had to spend my day up close and gazing into mouths, I too would want a substantial monetary reward. BTW gorgeous image :-)
August 5th, 2014
@tabarlett Thank you very much - I just don't understand whu they think we have the ability to be coherent with a fist in our gobs!
@brigette Thanks veyr much...that's some of Sleepy Hollows where we live...
@deak68 Thanks very much - we have those here too and I have my doubts about whether there would be any wallet left at all
@cindyloo I probably have lost it, but who would notice? And thanks very much indeed :)
@bellshanghai2014 Relatively painless, not quick at all...still, 3 months to go until the next one..and thanks very much
@eyeamlisa It is beautiful indeed, and no, there will be no drool shot ;)
@cailts Thanks very much, appreciated :)
@livvy Thank you very much :)
@ukandie1 Good luck with that! Thanks very much
@taffy Oh I am a real challenge to all dentists...if he wants to give me free treatments in exchange for practice in making in enjoyable for all, by all means! And thanks very much.
@annied LOL, that's the sort of thing I'd do...still. This mountain was used in The Last Samurai, which was filmed locally, as a "stunt double" for Mount Fuji
@hermann I know what you're saying...and some of the stuff that comes out of my mouth...well...anyway, thanks very much :)
August 5th, 2014
@graemestevens ah really - I can admit I love that movie - I was dubious about Mr Cruise - still am somewhat - however I love Ken Watanabe and Koyuki in particular and am familiar with some of the other Asian cast members too
and I will admit I still tell people what I think of them if they are deserving
August 5th, 2014
Did it work? It's a lovely shot Graeme, lucky you to have a snow-capped mountain to soothe your troubled soul.
August 5th, 2014
@annied As do I - if they merit my breath anyway!
@golftragic I don't know that is soothed me very much, but I survived the dental "therapy"...
August 5th, 2014
@graemestevens oh God yes - there are some that do not warrant the expended breath and energy hahahaha
August 5th, 2014
@graemestevens Well done. Time for single malt therapy, well it is nearly that time here anyway.
August 5th, 2014
@amandal @gigiflower crazieeee ladies.... Dentists make me feel much the same as Mr S.....but after the bravery prep talk with 5 year old about how it's nothing to worry about, just open your mouth wide, be calm etc etc....it wouldn't look good to go into a major panic and ask said 5 year old to ahold your hand cause you're scared too....yucky yuk dentists. Give me a blood test any day, needle in and out that's fine.....
August 5th, 2014
@annied orthodontists....yucky yuk yuk double yuk....still get nightmares about mine....
August 5th, 2014
Mr S. Fabulous shot. Love it.
August 5th, 2014
great shot you have a wonderful view. it kind of looks like a big tooth!
August 5th, 2014
No, no, no- the man who produces those scary images is never scared. He is relishing the opportunity to capture pain and gore so will the imposter please leave Graeme Stevens' body!
August 5th, 2014
@newbank Send said five year old to school so you can sweat and panic without any ill effects… I'm with Mr S - sweaty hands, shaking, incoherent words and thoughts - hate it! Great shot of the mountain - so lucky that you live nearby.
August 5th, 2014
@dide but then I'd have to go twice....once to take him, then again to take myself....I get panicked by the what to do in a cardiac arrest emergency posters....I'm like, you're only looking at my teeth?
August 5th, 2014
nice
August 5th, 2014
Beautiful view! You are very prolific - would love it if you wrote a story! hint hint
August 5th, 2014
beautiful shot (I'm so glad I've got back to annual checks and very little done)
August 5th, 2014
Haha you poor dear. Love your story sipping my wine while reading and laughing what more could I ask for on a Tuesday night :)
August 5th, 2014
@golftragic Absolutely, just been out for dinner and drinks with friends so all better now...
@newbank LOL, I'm so pleased I'm not the only one! There's not a lot that gives me the heeby jeebies but a trip to the dentist will do it every time! And thank you very much too!
@andrewkru Thanks very much, it dominates pretty much every view around here....when it's not covered with cloud anyway!
@ceilidh No no no...it's really me...if all goes according to plan I might have something gruesome soon. Then again I may not.
@originalintentionstudios Thanks very much, and for the follow :)
@creativefool Sure is, glad you like it. When were travelling I kept a "journal" which finished up being about 900 - 1000 pages, but I haven't really written anything since. Could be tempted but god knows what I'd write about!
@shannejw Thanks very much - I'm counting the days, apparently I can go to 6 months soon...the joys of smoking I'm afraid, but now that I've stopped...
@tracelee Pleased to be of assistance :)
August 5th, 2014
Beautiful scene
August 5th, 2014
loved the running commentary, I have a dentist with a view too and all the latest posh mags -it doesn't help!!!
August 5th, 2014
Beautiful panorama....glad you survived to tell the tale...
August 5th, 2014
Pahaha! I loved this photo as much as I loved reading your little story! I too visited the dentist today but it wasn't anywhere near as terrifying as your experience sounded! Next time you may have to go in armed! :)
August 5th, 2014
Not only a wordsmith, but you can also sling a few very descriptive and entertaining sentences together as well, mate. Wonderfully described visit to a place that also fills me with horror! And that mountain is looking stunning today!
August 5th, 2014
so very inspirational.
August 5th, 2014
LOL - love your style!
August 5th, 2014
Stunning view.
August 5th, 2014
Stunning capture, Graeme. A fav for me.
August 5th, 2014
Hope you didn't cry in the dentist's chair!!! I hope your lovely wife gave you a hug better!!! Lovely capture of your mountain - great to see the building in the foreground.
August 5th, 2014
Fantastic capture
August 5th, 2014
@amandal @graemestevens I've actually fallen asleep in the dentist's chair and he had to remind me to keep my mouth wide open. When I first saw the photo and the title, I thought you were referring to the mountain as a tooth. Beautiful scenery. As usual, I love the narrative.
August 5th, 2014
@bill_fe See, it's relaxing. I have this hygienist that my mom warned me NOT to get though, Apparently she was really rough on my mom's gums. I asked not to have her, but got her anyway. My eyes bugged out when she introduced herself...knowing that it was the rough one. She's really gentle though. Must have gotten a talking to.:)
August 5th, 2014
@amandal Good thing she changed her ways.
August 5th, 2014
@bill_fe Sheesh, I know!
August 5th, 2014
If there was a view like this at our dentist I'd be there every month!!
August 5th, 2014
@wearing0 Thanks very much
@pinkpaintpot Thanks...nothing helps!!!
@tellefella Thank you very much...sometimes I think I only just make it out alive!
@lilminimonka I think I need a Kevlar body suit and some big knives. And thanks very much :)
@tomtom Thanks very much - when it's in the mood to show itself it can look amazing.
@blueberry1222 Thank you very much :)
@sidecar Thanks very much :)
@andy3168 Thanks...works for me ;)
@davie Thank you very much, appreciated
@lynnilou Thanks very much...I always sob uncontrollably in the chair...but I do get a sticker when it's all over. ;)
@dougapic Thanks very much
@bill_fe Are you quite mad? Fallen asleep...with that noise going on inside your head? Good lord. And thanks very much as well :)
@amandal It all lies and trickery - she'll be lulling you into a false sense of security, getting ready to pounce and inflict never ending pain and suffering ;)
@chippy1402 Not even this could make me go every month! 3 monthly is more than enough for me!
August 5th, 2014
That view is truly amazing! Brilliant shot
August 5th, 2014
@roseolivia Thanks so much, we have a very similar view from our back garden as well...lucky old us :)
August 5th, 2014
Don't tell me you're frightened of a woman Graeme! A big strong man like you cowering in a chair...man up,lad! Ha ha only joking ...I don't like the dentist either!
Fabulous view of your mountain!
August 5th, 2014
You made me think the mountain is you teeth now. The rest is just the blur under the anaesthetic shock.
August 5th, 2014
@happypat Thanks very much - I can't man up when she insists on inserting power drills and sharp implements inside my face!!!
@yaorenliu Imagine how big my mouth would need to be...oh wait...
August 6th, 2014
@graemestevens Excellent, universal remedy.
