The Challenge by graemestevens

The Challenge

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to find the "unintentional skull" in this photo. I didn't notice it until I had downloaded today's shots, which were taken on Mount Taranaki as we walked from the Plateau to the Manganui Ski Field. This shot is taken at the base of the Manganui valley, affectionately known as Avalanche Gully...quite surprised to see a skull. Everywhere I go...
SOOC.
Is it perhaps in the lighted areas on the black outcropping to the right? If not, I will watch to discover what others see. Rugged looking mountains!

I give up! My son gives up, so does my daughter. I thought their keen young eyes would pick it out. But nope! Beautiful scene, though...
August 10th, 2014
Took a very long time but I found it eventually. It's in the dark area over on the right, just over half way up from the bottom.
Nice scenery including the skull!
August 10th, 2014
I can't see any skulls but trust you to find one. It's a great shot anyway and I like the way the dark areas frame the lighter mountain beyond. Maybe you could tag it for the current technique challenge which is framing. Just tag it technique29. I admit to having an interest because I'm hosting the challenge.
August 10th, 2014
I found it - fairly quickly - wonderful scenery. I wondered if you were entering this for the framing challenge
August 10th, 2014
Yes I can see what Sheperdman;s wife see's... great shot
August 10th, 2014
@aecasey @shepherdmanswife You're both spot on. Unprocessed, SOOC, and there it was...trust me...and thank you very much.
@tomtom Right hand side, on the rock face just over half way up...and thanks very much
@dh Thanks, and tagged appropriately. Didn't even know that was on...and it's on the right hand rock face, just over half way up...
@shannejw Thanks very much - and I am now that I know it's on!

Thanks to shepherdsmanswife I spotted it - very subtle. Fabulous moody capture.
August 10th, 2014
Sam
I only spotted it because everybody else pointed it out so thanks!! Man, I hope you were wearing warm clothes on your walk!
August 10th, 2014
I think the "skull" thing was just a ploy to get more views :-) Great shot mate, I will miss that place
August 10th, 2014
This is such an impressive shot! Clever will the skull!
August 10th, 2014
In the light area on the dark rocks on the right? A bit like your guardian angel only darker!
August 10th, 2014
I saw it pretty much straight away......but still looked in the snowy bit thinking I might be wrong. Love this beautifully framed shot.
August 10th, 2014
Ooh an actual skull..? I was looking for a skull pattern in the snow. Cool shot I like how it's framed by nature
August 10th, 2014
I gave up too quick and read the answers!
August 10th, 2014
Great framing shot.... Intentional or not.
August 10th, 2014
Wow that is beautiful!
August 10th, 2014
Spectacular.
August 10th, 2014
@lynnilou Thanks very much :)
@gigiflower It was a balmy, sub tropical 4 degrees. Delightful.
@longexposure Yeah, that would be it ;) You're welcome back anytime - they were saying you were quite well behaved.
@lilminimonka Thanks, I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing...
@wearing0 That would be it...a pleasant surprise
@happypat I'm just pleased it's not just me! And thanks :)
@livvy I think it was just a lucky break with the rock formations - and thanks very much
@blueberry1222 well that's just cheating. And exactly what I would have done.
@eyeamlisa Thanks very much
@nicoleterheide Thanks, that's "our" mountain
@andy3168 thanks very much :)
August 10th, 2014
Nice view and good of you to admit it was unintentional :-)
August 10th, 2014
@chippy1402 Thanks very much - if it was me it would have been front and centre and obviously fake!
August 10th, 2014
Great view
August 10th, 2014
I see lots of faces, a wide smiling one just in the middle, one, a bit of a monkey face looking up in the sky, oh and yes a skull to the right. Beautiful mountains, would love to hike there one day.
August 10th, 2014
Found it but only because others did. Lovely shot Graeme. What a beautiful place you live.
August 10th, 2014
Awesome!
August 10th, 2014
@dougapic Thanks very much :)
@overalvandaan Thanks very much - there's loads of tracks and huts up here...didn't see all of those faces but now I have to hunt for them too....
@ceilidh Thanks - we're pretty damn lucky
@cdh365 Thanks very much
August 10th, 2014
Lee
Wonderful.
August 11th, 2014
I haven't read above comments yet because I wanted to take a gander for the skull and left it until this morning so my eyes could focus - I see two faces - one top left and one bottom centre bit to the right - bottom reminds me of skull top more of a gorilla
it looks like an amazing place - and your image is awesome
August 11th, 2014
ahh just had a last look and I think middle right with a skeletal hand near the gnashing teeth - ignore above although I do think left is a gorilla
August 11th, 2014
I found it too, but many others ahead of me. Love the shot Graeme, it's so sharp with the framing you've used.
August 11th, 2014
@gamelee Thank you very much
@annied Thanks very much - it is an amazing place although a touch nipply...
@golftragic Thanks very much :)
August 11th, 2014
@graemestevens hahahaha nipply can be painful
August 11th, 2014
I see it!! Beautiful photo!
August 11th, 2014
@cailts Yaya! And thanks very much
@annied There are holes in my shirt now :(
August 11th, 2014
@graemestevens I hate when that happens
August 11th, 2014
@annied saves on ironing...
August 11th, 2014
@graemestevens i do try to avoid ironing any chance I get
August 11th, 2014
@annied I'd rather buy new than iron
August 11th, 2014
@graemestevens hahahahahaha i feel it!
August 11th, 2014
@annied I hope like hell we're still talking about ironing
August 11th, 2014
I can see two - one in the clouds on the left and one in the snow in the centre
August 11th, 2014
@terryliv in that case, keep looking for the third!
August 11th, 2014
@graemestevens indeed hahahahahaha
August 11th, 2014
Middle bottom snowy bit? Nice work. I took a great SOOC shot the other day and still had to screw around with it in processing. I may still post SOOC, but we'll see.
August 11th, 2014
@amandal On the right hand rock face, about half way up. I don't often get SOOC...
August 11th, 2014
Saw it! What a lovely place.
August 12th, 2014
@jess1204 Thanks very much, it's a gorgeous place. Weather permitting we'll be going back up there this weekend.
August 12th, 2014
just an amazing view
August 12th, 2014
I see a frog! LOL! Do you know Paul Cleave, a horror write from Chch? If not, you should probably go and have a beer with him!
August 12th, 2014
@pittcj17 It certainly is, might go back this weekend, weather dependant
@tabbycat I'll look into that, thanks...could do with a beer
August 12th, 2014
Skulls are everywhere! Look and you will find!
August 15th, 2014
