Behold the entrance to my Realm.
Enter at your own risk but I must warn you - and be it on your own head of you should choose to disregard this warning - that on the other side we are all drunk, dressed only in lingerie (although I do prefer to call it "linger wear") and like to while away the days frolicking among the gorse bushes.
This is actually the Tangahoe Tunnel on the way to Lake Ratapiko, about 20 minutes West of Hawera. Hawera is a small town where we like to keep all of those not deserving of a normal place in society due to their proclivity for going out in bare feet, shorts and singlets (or vests, if you must). The road through the Tangahoe Valley is mostly gravel and is littered with fine examples of redneckery, sodomy, incestuousness and general back country behaviour...not a cafe in sight!!!
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
@amandal Thanks very much, I do like a good looking hole... @julzmaioro Thanks very much - not this one, this is on a "no exit" road down in Hawera, about an hours drive from where the Whangamomana Road comes out at Stratford @pandorasecho Thanks very much - that looks like a tight fit... @bigugly Thank you very much...I seem to have more orifices than I know what to do with... @maggiemae You and me both - you won't need your flash though, we're all doing that as well! @anazad511 Thanks very much, and that depends entirely on which end you're coming at it from ;) @leanne333 Thanks very much - there's always a lot of fun to be had in rural parts...apparently
@northy I really liked the shape of this tunnel, especially as it's round at the other end instead of an arch...and don't be too jealous, it's a very small realm.
@cindyloo Thanks very much...you chicken ;) @golftragic Thanks very much - I'll go back with the tripod one day and get a shot inside the tunnel...that was spooky
@lisatown About a car width, it was a tight fit @jess1204 Thank you most kindly @gigiflower Vomit away...it's what we do in Taranaki @carlt Thanks very much @tatopaz Thank you most kindly @eyeamlisa Thanks very much :) @hermann I was shocked! And thank you very much @cindyloo LOL, might be advisable
@graemestevens After all this backwoods sodomy talk... I had to google where the hell you are ;) Looks like @gigiflower may feel comfortable at Pukekura park ;)
ya know, Graeme, at the end of a very long day *glancing at the clock* and the bottom of a heavy shot (or two) of bourbon, this tunnel and description lead me to believe I'd fit in just fine! ;)
@gigiflower haha... I was wondering ... who is Mr. S? You couldn't possibly mean @graemestevens ? I assume him somewhat of a pussy cat... and he has pajamas! that could actually make him the 'cat's pajamas' ;)
Welll when you put it like that I think I pass this opportunity to enter your dark realm, I´m not that into drunken lingurie shows but in general I´m very interested about dark mysterious holes.....sinply love that spark of light at the other end -great to know that there is light on the other end of the tunnel
Not sound like an attractive place for a holiday, but I imagine, there will be plenty street photography opportunities, at the risk being fisted. Great composition.
@pinkpaintpot All of the above and thank you very much :) @annied Why yes, oddly enough... @yaorenliu I shall wear lead trousers to prevent that, and thank you @dide They're harmless really...I hope...and thank you very much @newbank Thank you nice lady :) @susale Somewhat surprisingly, not many have taken me up on the offer...and thank you very much @deliad Thanks very much :) @andrewkru Thank you very much, appreciated @voiceprintz At last, someone who wants to join in! And thank you very much @lisatown@gigiflower Pukekura Park is AWFUL. It's full of pensioners, ducks and flowers and stuff. I on the other hand am not only a big pussy cat but roguishly handsome, witty, modest and an excellent liar. And yes, I like to be stroked. Very much.
@annied@graemestevens I think Mr S got bored and ran away. And you are right - you can bribe me with vegetables and I will do anything with you! Oh and before Mr S comments - thats vegetables to eat, not to put in holes.
@janiskay Thanks very much - I had about 6 inches either side of the car... @roseolivia Thanks very much - just standard hill country around here! @blueberry1222 Me too! @pittcj17 Thanks....there will definitely be one spooky shot at least! @tasian Thank you very much, much appreciated @pammerritt It's the light of our disco ball that you can see...and thank you :) @cocobella If it works for you... ;) @lilminimonka Thanks very much :) @gigiflower@annied I didn't get bored, I just went to bed...as lovely as you two are my bed is infinitely more satisfying ;)
what a great hole :p
I wonder if the shot from the opposite end of the hole would look like a moonshaped hole too....odd that the holes on each tunnel end are different shapes
Do you require a passport to venture into yonder tunnel.........sounds & looks a different world...I thnk it's possible I might have passed through this hole at one point in my life...I do remember seeing odd linger clad folks prancing about among the gorse bushes! I ran a mile!
@ceilidh I do that all the time... @livvy It's a perfect arch at the other end - peculiar to say the least, and thank you again :) @happypat Not at all, just come on down! @tellefella Thanks very much - the inside was much more impressive through the bare rock but I didn't have my tripod!
There is something a bit creepy about this shot even without your narrative, looks like a very narrow opening and potentially one way, looks like you might never come out again.
@julzmaioro Thanks very much - not this one, this is on a "no exit" road down in Hawera, about an hours drive from where the Whangamomana Road comes out at Stratford
