Firstly, I must thank my lovely daughter for having the patience to lie still on the floor for 5 minutes and not expect to be paid for it. Secondly, this is inspired (somewhat bizarrely) by a Muse song called "Follow Me" from the "2nd Law" album...I've been dwelling on this shot for a week or so now, and here (obviously) it is. I'm not sure it's worked quite the way I had envisaged. Best on black if you have the time or inclination.
The lyrics that got me thinking...
When darkness falls
And surrounds you
When you fall down
When you're scared
And you're lost, be brave
I'm coming to hold you now
When all your strength has gone
And you feel wrong
Like your life has slipped away
Follow me
You can follow me
And I will not desert you now
When your fire's died out
No one's there
They have left you for dead
Follow me
You can follow me
I will keep you safe
Follow me
I will protect you
I won't let them hurt you
They're hurting you
When your heart is breaking
You can follow me
I will always keep you safe
Follow me
You can trust in me
I will always protect you
My love
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
ooo! its scary on black completely changes the shadows are more pronounced. Even better with sound, I have it on as I write. We saw them live at Liverpool last year - amazing!
@drfleury14 Thanks very much - I find that while it's clearly a 'love song' there just seems to be something dark about it...to me anyway :) @pinkpaintpot Slightly jealous - we left the UK before we had a chance to see them, so I have to make do with the DVDs...but a firm favourite of mine. And thank you so much :) @ukandie1 Thank you very much indeed :) @mzzhope Thank you very much - as for buying her something, she hasn't done her chores yet so no... ;) @overalvandaan Thank you very much - I'm always listening to them these days, love them
love the song and should have put my machete comment here hahahaha - praise to daughter for being so obliging and ..................I loike it yes I do
well - i might fav this a couple times over if i could... fabulously dark and quirky... i really need to listen to more muse... i kind of stumbled over a couple of their songs and i quite like them... but haven't really checked out their other work...
Terrifically imaginative shot, Graeme. Love the processing. Nice to have such a patient, supportive and understanding daughter...I'm assuming she volunteered!!!!
I had thought that the distaff side of your family was protected by some sort of amulet that prevented them from falling prey to your evil ways... but it seems not, sadly! A Fav for your trouble.
@annied I did wonder why the machete comment was on t'other shot. I thought you may have become discombobulated but I'm pleased you like it, oh yes I am. @northy Thank you most kindly - they're a definite favourite band for me at the moment. @davie Thank you very much and you assume incorrectly ;) @vignouse Alas no, my entire household is prone to unstable behaviour. And thank you very much indeed.
@maggiemae She had her eyes firmly closed the entire time and only squealed once when I pushed down with my boot. At the end of the day it's only another $20 that I owe the therapist!
@juliedduncan Thanks very much - the boot (and the one on the other foot) are Doc's. As far as I'm aware there is no other boot. Many items of footwear may call themselves boots, but Doc Martens are the only true boot. And I haven't read that but assuming they'll let me back in to the library I shall investigate...
@graemestevens I have become discombobulated - in fact I am quite out of sorts this morning and am trying to pull myself together
and I do I do like it indeed
@annied What an earth for? Why deprive yourself of fun? @nanderson Thank you very much :) @scolgs Generally speaking it's only in photography...I was going to post a shot of a pretty little flower for Halloween actually ;)
@graemestevens OMG the horror 😱😱😱😱😱 ha ha - actually I dread to think what you'd do to a pretty little flower provably set it on fire or dip it in acid ???
@bigugly Thanks very much - lighting is courtesy of a bloody great big spotlight from the shed! @scolgs@northy You're quite right, I have set one on fire. It was asking for it :))
Your compositions definitely give cause for pause. Having 5 children of my own, I will say that you do have a very obliging daughter! How fun! You are making interesting memories together! Love the processing in this shot!
I like this. Your a delightfully sick and twisted individual. I know I've said that before but, sometimes, the obvious bears repeating. Just sayin'!
Oh, and you'll have to make (another) contribution (or two) to your daughter's inevitable therapy fund! ;) She gets a star for her part in the production of this image!
@voiceprintz Thanks very much - I've always said that if the hat fits, just pop it right on up there on my head. Her therapy pot is already overflowing the poor thing. For some reason she has twitch just below her right eye...
@annied it would be rude not to take something sharp out in public. Sometimes I just go out with my tongue and give some unsuspecting young whipper snapper the sharp side of it for having the audacity to not pull their pants up properly.
Nicely staged... a huge plus for the gas mask, which I am very excited to see. Your daughter is tolerant with your art... remember, she will be picking your nursing home. :)
@ceilidh Thanks very much - don't know that I'd go as far as willing.... @cindyloo Thank you kindly nice lady :) @rosiekerr I was just as excited to be wearing it...and thank you very much :) @annied Yes, clothes should fit.
@eyeamlisa Thank you very much. She had no choice as I had something sharp in my hand ;) @annied And suddenly you have a reason for that trip to town...
love muse. this is great and looks even better on black. well done your daughter for her patience. ours would have insisted on something nice in exchange.probably chocolate, but clothes as a very close second...
@jaynspain Our daughter is usually the same, but today I struck as soon as she got out of bed so I don't think the thought process was quite functioning. And thank you very much. @annied That is always a viable option.
@newbank@graemestevens I'm here now. Had a very very busy and eventful day. So very excited because I got my tomatoes planted in my vege patch! Now, onto this photo - I'm going to ignore the daughter bit because that is what children are there for - to obey you at all times and I think she is doing that. Who cares about choice or willingness in this matter. What I'm most scared about is those tight pants and scarf that you are wearing. Is this normal attire for you Mr S?
@newbank She is very patient indeed...and thank you, I think ;) @tellefella Thanks very much :) @terryliv I feel so much better ;) @annied Well yes, because no one likes to clean up... @gigiflower Those are my "I'll be working in the garden today" jeans and this was taken just before I headed out to do. Under normal circumstances ones comestibles require a certain amount of freedom, but old jeans are old jeans and I couldn't be bothered getting changed again.
@graemestevens@newbank@gigiflower personally I like those jeans and don't understand why you were wearing them gardening if your comestibles were not comfortable - is there not a lot of bending and stooping when gardening
@annied Now that's a great idea, almost genius. I could do away with my mop! @gigiflower Yes. Yes I am. I am rapidly making my way towards "portly gentleman.
@annied@gigiflower I like them too and they are "stretch" jeans. If placement of the comestibles is correctly achieved then there is no problem, but on occasion they can, without warning, become nut crackers.
@annied@graemestevens Ms Annie - how do you know about testicles causing pain when they are in the wrong place? And Mr S - are you sure they are not stone washed stretch jeans? I know you have said that they aren't, but I'm thinking that you are lying. And why do you still have jeans from the 80's? It is 2014 after all.
@gigiflower@annied NZ is approximately 25 years behind the rest of the world...that should answer every question except Ms Annie's knowledge of the discomfort caused by trapping a testicle between a muscular thigh and a well made seam.
@annied@gigiflower I have the ability to retract mine at will. I don't know where they go, but it have a sneaking suspicion about the lumps either side of my neck...
@gigiflower@annied Good lord. I'm outraged. I'm a gentleman you know, @spanner I pounced as soon as she got out of bed so I really don't think the thought processes were functioning very clearly...
@gigiflower@annied Well, now that I'm outraged I shall leave you ladies to your chit chat and spend some time with ones family. We're heading out to do a spot of light painting. Have a wonderful evening and...togs togs togs undies!
@gigiflower@annied@graemestevens too late....too late....silly time zones. I have been doing mundane Saturday jobs. I didn't like to comment on the jeans but I did notice them too....
@gigiflower they just made me ponder.....they for me lost the impact of the shot I'm afraid to say because I just wondered about them and it feel v wrong to wonder so much about another mans jeans....
@newbank@annied Good plan especially because it is nearly bed time here and I don't want nightmares. However I do want to tell you that I made the BEST vegetarian quiche tonight and just finished some fruit salad. It was delicious :)
@gigiflower yummy......I'm about to go have some fresh bread we bought out at shops....but I could do with some of that quiche to go with it. Quiche is my new favourite thing.
@annied@newbank Mmm, yes well, I don't know Ms Annie. However, given the BIG Bathurst race tomorrow, you must have home made sausage rolls so I decided to do pork and veal for them. Of course, I will have a million vegetables in them and my husband will no doubt say "did you really put any meat in these?".....and I will slather them in any sauce that I can get my hands on just in case I can taste the meat!
@newbank@gigiflower@annied No need to apologise. I'm not apologising for my jeans. If I choose to have a well defined and snug location for my comestibles on a gardening day then I should expect the odd comment on my tights ;)
Loved reading the banter from Sam, Annie and Ruth! Awesome image - your daughter deserves a medal for having to put up with a father like you :) Super when viewed on the black!
Fab to have a co operative family.......your daughter is a chip off the old block perhaps! I love that song so interesting to see your interpretation of the words. Great discussion re the jeans.......gardening jeans have holes in them ...these are far too good specially in NZ where you are casual dressers!
@lynnilou Thanks very much...I guess someone has to enjoy the banter... ;) @amandal Thanks very much - it's very real, not that I've tried it around has of any kind. I'm patiently waiting for one of the dogs to "let go" so I can try it out! @happypat If you'd seen what live in my garden you wouldn't want holes in your jeans! And thank you very much - something about that song has always struck me as a little 'dark' :)
@graemestevens@gigiflower@newbank don't be blaming me it was that supposed ladyeeeee up there - she was the one who mentioned the jeans - they were just part of the whole package in my opinion and I said as much phhhhttt - ladyeeeeeee indeed
@graemestevens@annied I've just painted my toe nails with some glitter. It's all about the hippy LOVE we are sharing ;) Even if @annied called me a TWAT and @graemestevens dobbed on her!!!
@blueberry1222 LOL, it's great fun...I plan on picking the daughter up from school while wearing it one day soon... @annied@gigiflower I wasn't going to put in on my nails...
@pinkpaintpot Slightly jealous - we left the UK before we had a chance to see them, so I have to make do with the DVDs...but a firm favourite of mine. And thank you so much :)
@ukandie1 Thank you very much indeed :)

Patient daughter. Your shadow looks scarier than you.
@tellefella Thanks very much :)
@terryliv I feel so much better ;)

*throwing arms up in horror*
I am horrified
I just thought the whole image worked well lol
@semjaja Thanks very much - just a great big spot light from the man cave...
@pittcj17 LOL, thanks very much
@lilminimonka Thanks very much indeed
@gigiflower @newbank @annied Both I and my photo feel violated.
@amandal Thanks very much - it's very real, not that I've tried it around has of any kind. I'm patiently waiting for one of the dogs to "let go" so I can try it out!
@happypat If you'd seen what live in my garden you wouldn't want holes in your jeans! And thank you very much - something about that song has always struck me as a little 'dark' :)
Haha yep thats pretty much it
Good Morning :)
@gamelee Thanks very much - I have often thought to do a month of song inspired shots...
there's much mushiness occurring - I am somewhat disturbed by it
Halle - ducking - lujah!!!!!
Farewell the mush you TWATS! !!!
@gigiflower TWAT!
@gigiflower She called you a twat...snigger
@gigiflower *waving around love love flowery love*
@gigiflower glittery hippy
what's the community coming too
@gigiflower @annied Glittery toenails...sigh...time for amputation
@annied @gigiflower I wasn't going to put in on my nails...
