Shelob by graemestevens

Shelob

We were busy doing some work around the house for the all important and more than slightly dreaded Christmas preparations when I spotted this wonderful monstrosity outside the window of the West Wing of the manor house, just next to the library and servants quarters...by which I mean conservatory, magazine rack and our bedroom.
Awesome.

@darylo Thanks very much :)
December 22nd, 2014
Love your funny comments! I guess the Lord and Lady wouldn't deign to smash this fellow into smithereens?
December 22nd, 2014
look at those hairy legs!
December 22nd, 2014
Excellent pov.
December 22nd, 2014
She does look like a giant and I assume as a Samwise you bravely removed her and sent her off to a new place. Great shot!
December 22nd, 2014
@overalvandaan Thanks very much - she's exactly where she was to be honest. I don't mind them and she looks like she was doing a good job.
@spanner Thanks very much - I'm not tall enough to get any other POV on this one!
@brigette Just like mine except she has more!
@maggiemae Good lord no - she's been left alone to do her business
December 22nd, 2014
you know its a she?!
December 22nd, 2014
Eekk.....
December 22nd, 2014
Oh, wonderful POV. So cool... lovely, shapely, hairy legs.
December 22nd, 2014
She's a stunner! Great capture.
December 22nd, 2014
Awesome capture
December 22nd, 2014
We have these beauties weaving their webs throughout the garden, I daren't go out at night to wander without a torch, saying that, the torch aids in displaying of enormous spider shadows on the tree trunks, very creepy.
Nice image :)
December 22nd, 2014
Super photo.
December 22nd, 2014
@brigette I peeked up it's skirt...and with stilettos like that it's either a she or a drag queen...
@newbank I know...I nearly shuddered a bit
@rosiekerr Thanks very much - those legs are remarkably similar to mine ;)
@voiceprintz That she is, and thanks very much
@andy3168 Thank you very much :)
@hermann Thanks very much - we have loads of them as well as we have trees, trees and more trees. This one was just quite striking against the white of the house.
@chippy1402 Thanks very much :)
December 22nd, 2014
Oh, he's cool. Not so fluffy as the bee. Super contrast here!
December 22nd, 2014
Eww! Your pictures give me nightmares!
December 22nd, 2014
He looks worse in b/w somehow......I don't mind spiders but this one gives me the creeps, perhaps because he lives in your house!
Oh I forgot Shelob is a woman!
December 22nd, 2014
Ah yes, Shelob.. the woman in black and white... what you usually see when looking a woman?
December 22nd, 2014
Gorgeous capture, as they say! Makes my scalp crawl! :)
December 22nd, 2014
I was wondering what Charlotte was up to! Glad she's found some lordly living quarters ;p
December 22nd, 2014
@northy Yes, but thus far we haven't received any messages written in web...

@amandal Thanks very much...quite liking him/her as well :)
December 22nd, 2014
Have you checked her cell phone for texts?
December 22nd, 2014
you have a conservatory?
this is a very awesome spider shot - she is quite beautiful - apparently I will be having some deadly guests in the house tonight as my daughter transports them from one place to another - will try and get some photos
December 23rd, 2014
@northy Good point. I imagine with that many legs she'd be a faster texter.
@annied We do indeed have a conservatory. Where else would we hold orchestral recitals of a summer evening?
December 23rd, 2014
@graemestevens duck! I want a conservatory - more to hang my disco ball and dance to Saturday Night Fever though HAHAHAHAHA
December 23rd, 2014
Wow, fantastic processing! Busy time of year.

December 23rd, 2014
Oooh....So having been bitten by spiders....I have a healthy respect for them....and they do a lovely job taking care of other ummm issues we may have....still....looking at this....I have a cross of awe and itchiness....
December 23rd, 2014

December 23rd, 2014
@panthora Thanks very much - I'm sure Kim would be delighted to be compared to a spider!
December 23rd, 2014
fabulous spider.
December 23rd, 2014
Very cool! But you are lucky in NZ - there aren't any poisonous spiders are there?
December 23rd, 2014
Sue
Eeeuw I don't do spiders, but this is a fab shot.
December 23rd, 2014
Wow this is superb!
December 23rd, 2014
the b&w gives this additional depth...I like the composition quite a bit.
December 23rd, 2014
Most excellent on the black, and most excellent tags too.
December 23rd, 2014
Yikes! Great capture!
December 23rd, 2014
@bill_fe Thank you kindly on both counts :)
@taffy Thanks very much - once again my dumb luck masquerades as skill...
@lambda Thank you very much :)
@sioux Neither do I - I'm just happy that the comments are this far down and I don't have to look at it anymore. And thanks :)
@888rachel Thanks - we have the white tail (not too serious most of the time) and the katipo (quite serious most of the time) other than that I think we're reasonably okay. No snakes either, with the exception of politicians...
@francoise Thanks very much :)
December 23rd, 2014
@homeschoolmom Thanks very much :) She's gone now...somewhere. Slightly worrying.
December 23rd, 2014
Haha, sounds like a huge job waiting for your mansion.
December 23rd, 2014

Very cool shot! I used to be squeamish with spiders but not anymore!! Conquered that one.
December 28th, 2014
@harbie Thanks very much - there are some I'm still not happy about but in the main they're okay
December 28th, 2014
Wow. Um... that's awesome. Fantastic photo, really! I'm just not a fan of spiders in person.
December 28th, 2014
@ksmale it took all my courage to take the shot! And thank you :)
December 28th, 2014
What a monster! I like the strong contrast! I'm always hesitant to push it that far myself. But it's clearly worth it here.
December 28th, 2014
@laetitiapetrussa Thank you very much - doesn't work everytime by any means!
December 29th, 2014
OH MY GOD call 911 that is a beast
December 29th, 2014
@aponi It's huge, enormous...a juggernaut. It started running toward the lens when I took the shot....I ran away screaming and waving my arms around!
