Sugar Loaves by graemestevens

Sugar Loaves

The title? Well...those islands over there are known collectively as the Sugar Loaf Islands. Individually they are Matoara, Motoutamatea and Pararaki...and there's two more hidden around the corner from here. They're actually the remnants of a very active volcano and were named the Sugar Loaves by Captain Cook who thought that they resembled the lumps of sugar that he put in his tea. Who the hell makes tea out of salt water?
Best on black as usual.
very Ansel Adams. Love it!

I love that you consistently find such menacing skies. Is all of NZ like that or you just wait until the sky is as cantankerous as you are? Just wondering! ;)

Wonderful stormy, dark pic!!
June 26th, 2015
@voiceprintz I just wait for the right sky...and a little bit of processing of course. But if the sky isn't playing the game then neither am I!
@photographycrazy Thank you very much indeed :)

So old Captain Cook travelled with his sugar lumps did he? Good thing it was not a sugar baby!
June 26th, 2015
@maggiemae It's a well known fact that you can't explore properly without a cup of tea at hand!

The comment that I'm going to make on tomorrow's pic applies to this one as well!
June 27th, 2015
@vignouse In that case, the comment I made on tomorrow's pic applies here as well.

For some really weird reason this makes me think of the Black Eyes Peas song "My Humps"....something about "my lovely lady lumps"! Absolutely positive that is not what Captain Cook was thinking when he saw those islands, but those must have been some rough sugar lumps!! Great photo, btw!!

@panthora Thanks very much - I'm disturbed by how well you know that song...
