Walking a touch further around the cliff from yesterdays shot brings Paritutu into view, which loosely translates as "sheer cliff". A couple of years ago a group of students were tragically killed in a school rock climbing outing on the sides of Paritutu, and one of the bodies is yet to be recovered. Paritutu can be climbed easily from the inland side and there is a viewing area at the top, although it has always been a popular spot for people to commit suicide as well. It's actually unusual for the seas to be this calm in this particular area as well, and the gap you can see between two of the islands is locally known as "shark alley"...danger abounds on this particular beach.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
You are a natural at these dramatic seascapes as I've commented before - you have a serious talent that needs to be nurtured... it will still be serving you well when the quirkiness has had its 15 minutes of fame.
@nanderson The beach seems to empty of people when I arrive - strange that ;) @annied Thank you kindly, tis' my favourite beach @vignouse I blame my Scottish heritage for the stinginess - and thank you sir, always appreciated @texastrails Thanks very much, just what I was aiming for @cocobella Thank you very much :) @mothermalarky Absolutely - I like to live life on the edge @amandal I'm just a big 'ol drama queen
@northy I'm going to assume that you're talking about the photo, in which case yes, this particular beach is ;) @joemuli Thank you kindly...just as well I didn't turn the camera around so that you could see me and the petrochemical plant just up the hill behind :(
@homeschoolmom Thank you very much :) @bigugly Thanks very much indeed :) @brigette Only one to go...I might have to go outdoors again soon as get some more!
@overalvandaan Thank you very much - the place names are fine if you can pronounce them! @gigiflower We are reasonably lucky around here, but everywhere has it's spots.
Fantastic landscape, you do have a talent for these. Around here, with the lack of cliffs people prefer fast moving trains for their harrie Carrie needs. Love the Scotsman comment too, that tightass gene is a very strong one. One of my proudest moments was getting one to shout me a beer.
This is a nicely shot brooding and menacing seascape. I enjoyed reading about it... fascinating about the shark alley and the suicide "attraction." I agree with the comments above... you do have a talent for these shots.
@jack4john Not yet...must find me one @rosiekerr Thank you very much...it's all in the way I hold my tongue ;) @gamelee Thanks very much :) @karlow75 The other half of me is Irish, so it's a dangerous combination ;)
