Rest Stop

I had to meet a client in the middle of nowhere today, so far from civilisation that you could almost see the edge of the world from where I was standing. This is the Douglas Railway Station. I don't know who Douglas was but he was obviously important enough to justify naming a small backwater rife with redneckery after him.
Things to be concerned about:
1. There was no cafe - my latte deprived brain is starting to have hallucinations
2. There were no toilet facilities - I now have a warm feeling in my strides/slacks/breeches/trouser area.
3. Bloody colour!

Oh, not too bad on black.
It's rather pretty in a desaturated dilapidated falling down way... So glad you didn't fall off the edge.... But dang! Place has got to be small if no coffee!

@northy I just desaturated the green, it was far too...green. There used to be an old brickworks here as well but it's disappeared without a trace. When I was the ripe old age of 12 I took a photo here and got commended at a national competition but now that I'm old and feeble I really couldn't be arsed expending the energy to climb the fence.

A fixer-upper and comes with auto. Great selling point and your photo describes it perfectly.

@bigugly Thank you sir. I was certainly pleased to leave and head back to civilisation. Unfortunately the nearest town is Stratford, another rural backwater. They welcomed me as a hero and have now enshrined me in local folklore as some sort of god. I believe this happened because I was carrying a "phone". They're a strange people.

@graemestevens Just imagine if you had of donned your corset for the visit.
September 4th, 2015
Oh your comments :) :) This is quite nice on black indeed - and not too much color! The little bit there is... works very well with this shot. Which in itself is a great one.

Oddly enough, the bird on the post intrigues me . . .
September 4th, 2015
@juliedduncan Just a magpie, I tried to get closer but he wasn't have a bar of it. Bastard.
@kerosene Thank you kindly - I don't think there's ever any danger of me going overboard with colour ;)
@bigugly I'd rather not - I dare say buggery would abound.

I like the desaturated look... makes the place look washed out and sad, which it well might be. The car, facing you, is very cool. Too bad the bird wouldn't let you get any nearer. The extremely level lines of the rail contrast really well with the sags, tilts and rolling hills. The idea of you there, with your corset, is... well, complex. ;)
September 4th, 2015
@rosiekerr I have mixed feelings about being there in my corset as well - it could well ruin any remaining straight lines ;)

It is about time Douglas gave his Railway Station a bit of TLC.. nice shot and processing.. is this on the Forgotton Highway??
September 4th, 2015
Love the shot and the vintage car!:)
September 4th, 2015
@julzmaioro Thanks very much - it is indeed, turn left at the Douglas "town ship" and there you are. And then you leave. Quickly.
@joemuli Thanks very much :)

That station building could be reclassified as a lean-to. I guess that the car is parked in the long-term area. The hint of colour works well.
September 4th, 2015
Hey, California Bay Area fixer-upper - cheap at $400K to $1.1M
September 4th, 2015
Colour, but only just! Love the commentary and the feel of the shot.
@salza Haha, very well put!
September 4th, 2015
@salza I didn't want to overdo the colour, people always think I'm ill when I do...can't think why...
@mikegifford That sounds about right for Auckland as well...
@dibzgreasley Thanks very much - I wouldn't want too much colour...
September 4th, 2015
Nice - even a magpie in the image - your visit must have doubled the population of the area.
September 4th, 2015
it pains me to fav this - but I must
September 4th, 2015
1. No cafe? Where else can you meet?
2. No toilet? I suppose Mr. Douglas doesn't mind...
3. Colour you say?
September 4th, 2015
I think your car needs a little work before its next WOF...
September 4th, 2015
Cool comp
September 4th, 2015
One forlorn looking beast in the field on the left... or is that the local leisure centre?
September 4th, 2015
Desolation indeed :)

@hermann It was, it was...horrifically so
@vignouse We're not in Wales you know...

@mastermek 1. In a field 2. I pee'd in an empty cup 3. Shocking isn't it?
@annied I'm so sorry for your anguish
@dide I think it might have, I know the one remaining local gathered on the road side to watch
September 4th, 2015

September 4th, 2015
What did you do withe the clients body after you plugged him. I'm guessing it's in the car boot...
September 4th, 2015
@jack4john It's buried in the garden...I've always wanted a human skull.

September 5th, 2015
No latte? This does reek of redneckery. I like the bird on the fence, and the near lack of color.
September 6th, 2015
@bill_fe I wouldn't want to overdo the colour...
September 6th, 2015
Love it, Outstanding....
September 6th, 2015
@tonygig Thank you kindly
September 6th, 2015
Love the composition and the slight hint of color! Working with that paint company is letting strange things seep into your photographs! All that rust is fabulous! I bet one of the neighbors would have provided you with a rusty tin cup of coffee if you had asked! FAV!
September 10th, 2015
@panthora I wouldn't dare ask one of the shotgun totting neighbours for anything!
