This is Lucy, our other retired/rescued Greyhound. No, I did not shoot her.
When a greyhound sleeps like this, as our two do on a regular basis, it's called "roaching" and if you happen to be sitting on the sofa (which they are NOT allowed on) when they do this you WILL be rewarded with a high five in the face from a hind leg when they start twitching.
Little Lucy suffers from discoid lupus as well and at this time of year it tends to flare up - wherever the skin changes from being normal skin to being, for example, a paw pad or a shiny black nose she will get very, very dry and flaky skin. After a lot of trial and error with various creams and potions (all of which ended with copious amounts of vomit) we've found that a liberal application of enriched Manuka honey to the nose keeps it nicely under control. Having said that, we do need to avoid walking on gravel as it's painful for her delicate little paw pads.
Other than that, and her name, as you can see there's not very much about Lucy that is ladylike at all.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
I'm not too much of a dog person, but I do love Greyhounds. My aunt had three or four rescued ones over time, including "Flower", who was a miniature. They were so sweet and gentle. I was pretty sure you did shoot Lucy as I thought I could see a bullet hole.
Lucy is an absolute hoot!!! Love that toothy smile on her face, and of course the total abandon!! I think it is worth being smacked in the face with that hind paw....she looks so comfortable there! Manuka honey is great stuff, and probably good for her, too, if she ingests it.....have you tried coconut oil?
@deborah63 It's chicken that releases the fumes from the belly of hell and empties the room... @harbie "A little"...understatement of the year right there ;) @bigugly I have been known to have my moments... @karlow75 As long as you remember not to look down everything is fine... @frantackaberry Thanks - it always amazes me the positions that they get into and call comfortable! @panthora We hadn't tried coconut oil actually but the honey seems to work and as you say, no harm done if she ingests it. Or our other hound licks it off her nose as often happens! @photographycrazy Every day we laugh at these guys! @annied It runs in the family... @maggiemae It works really well and she does take it internally, even if it has only been licked off ;) @vignouse We all do this at my place, it's a house rule @featherstone Yeah, that's not a bullet hole ;) But they are sweet and gentle and very loving, wonderful animals
@brigette And they give us more than one each day @rosiekerr You and me both, even if she is a disgrace @kerosene She is indeed and we don't let her forget it ;) @marymacaroni Thank you very much :) @pusspup Dear lord, if she did this in the street we'd all be arrested.
Oh isn't it just a dog's life! My Border Collie sleeps like this although she likes to use the arm of the chair as a pillow. Sometimes it looks like she's sitting up. I was going to mention coconut oil. It is very good for skin problems plus it also helps maintain healthy joints, amongst other things.
My adopted greyhounds were so wonderful. But not the most playful for the kids and happier to snuggle me than anything. I know our big boy thought he was a tiny lap dog. I miss them and this picture makes me laugh to remember what clowns they could be, and yeah, couch hogs.
@mastermek Steady on! ;) @pandorasecho They're definitely far from active but just loveable idiots @salza It's a hard life alright - we used to have a border collie but he was far to clever for us!
A relaxed dog is a happy dog......we have rescue cats who so this....however, Lucy is quite a bit larger than they are :) - thanks for making me smile - this is lovely (in a special I love rescued animals way :) )
@nitrogene she is indeed....and lazy @jillhempsall That you do...both our dogs do this all the time. I haven't sat on the sofa in 4 years ;) @pixelchix Extremely unladylike. Shocking bahviour. @yaorenliu Both of them are spoiled rotten @deak68 I'm all in favour of rescued animals, it's the only way to go @nanderson We tried those...she hated them and refused to walk, even after we thought she'd gotten used to them @taffy Thanks - they're amazing animals, we love having them about @nanderson Thanks very much - she's lucky and so are we ;) @golftragic And the other big lout is on the other sofa...sigh @hermann Thanks very much, not a care in the world
Hehehehe love this, both our Pointers sleep like this but our Shepherd sleeps on his side :)
With Monster I'm pretty sure it's so you can rub his tummy while he's sleeping :)
