the great war (2) by graemestevens

the great war (2)

The second of my shots from the Great War Exhibition at Te Papa Museum in Wellington, again taken with the iPhone.
What I particularly liked about this exhibition is that rather than the "usual" repetitive "how terrible war is" approach (which we all know by now) this exhibition focusses on, among other things, the individual stories and experiences of the surviving soldiers who these figures are modelled on...so essentially we're seeing the real people (albeit at 2.4 times life size) and hearing/seeing their memories, letters, experiences etc. It certainly makes it more immediate and important that they not be forgotten.
Fascinating stuff.

@pandorasecho You're welcome...thousands upon thousands of New Zealanders and Australians killed in one military action...
@shepherdmanswife That makes a change from my usual tripe then ;)

Very powerful photo, sounds like a very worthwhile exhibition to spend some time absorbing. We loved our visit to Te Papa when we were in NZ a few years back.
March 15th, 2017
@golftragic It's a great museum but they're rocking this exhibit, absolutely amazing but distressing at the same time
March 15th, 2017
@graemestevens I'd love to see it too, but no trips to NZ planned for the moment. Too busy paying for our end-of-year trip to Burma which has turned out rather more exxy than anticipated.
March 15th, 2017
@golftragic That makes sense and can be excused ;)
March 15th, 2017

gripping pov & image. Thanks for posting a series rather than just one or two images - as a whole, they present some very powerful statements.
March 17th, 2017
An incredibly powerful and moving mage. Your pov is excellent. Looking at the detail it's hard to believe this is an exhibit. Fav for me.
