the great war (5) by graemestevens

the great war (5)

The Western Front - we were there as well. It was far from "all quiet".
As sometimes happens this shot refused to work in B&W so you'll have to excuse the sudden burst of colour, particularly from this soul who looks to be having a far from colourful time.
This soldier is wading through a "sea" of poppies - just before the final section of the exhibit is a place where one can stop and "make" a paper poppy. These have been placed around the soldiers feet over the time (so far) of the exhibit.
Been really interesting following your visit to this exhibition! Learnt stuff too

The most frightening aspect of all of this is that it is (almost) within living memory... and we haven't learned a 'king thing!
March 17th, 2017
@vignouse You're right there - I also don't think we'll ever learn a thing

A true expression so cleverly captured - looks like someone we might have known! Didn't recognise it as one of yours for a moment!

sometimes an image demands colour! the image is wading through a sea of red ..... symbolism...
March 17th, 2017
@ltodd It is symbolism...but colour...hmmm...
@maggiemae Thank you...and yes, not my usual fare
March 17th, 2017
This gives me shivers
March 17th, 2017
Wonderful textures - the color really adds to the effect.

Wonderful!

Awesome image - is that the Te Papa exhibition?
March 18th, 2017
What I love about this series is that it's hard to tell if they're sculpture or paintings from the images. It's made me look closer, which means seeing more detail. The figures are astonishingly good.
March 18th, 2017
@grendelbait The figures are amazing in real life - I really couldn't do them justice with the iPhone :)
@dkbarnett Thank you and yes, it is - well worth the visit
@photographycrazy Thank you very much :)
@linnypinny Thank you very much :)
@nicolecampbell Sorry about that ;)

very effective with the poppies. Would love to see this but it's a bit far...
March 18th, 2017
Fav.
March 18th, 2017
@chillen Thank you kindly :)
@jesperani It is bit I guess... ;)
March 18th, 2017
This one needs to be in color-good choice. The look of innocence contrasted to the god awfulness of war then you land in a sea of poppies- Wow so powerful.

What a lovely idea. And another excellent capture. I'm trying to picture it in b&w but yeah, I can't see it working 😮
March 19th, 2017
@paul10 It most definitely didn't work in B&W...I hate it when that happens ;)
