ashore

I'm not particularly fond of blue-bottles so it doesn't bother me overly much when I see them washed ashore. I have no doubt that they are a vital link of the food chain on some level but they're stingy little bastards and I can do without that sort of discomfort while enjoying a pleasant stroll at the seaside which, as you may have noticed, I do like to be beside.
Huh. There might be a song in there somewhere...
Duhhhhh, I looked for a fly and then glass and then I saw the fish. Nice splash MrS

I was under the impression you don't swim - so a blue-bottle shouldn't bother you much - I will agree though that they are stingy little bastards and this is spoken from experience - lovely PoV, DoF and all that palaver :)

great pov and shot - and I too looked, wondering if there'd be a fly in view, only to spot a jellyfish. That splash is great.

Being the least imaginative and most literal one here, I guess, I was looking for a blue bottle and thought this was going to be an anti polluting the waters of the world type thing.
Nice shot. I like the way colour is creeping in at the bottom with the jelly fish blue and driftwood brown.

A bluebottle is a jellyfish....I was looking for a blue bottle too, thought you meant litter but then you don’t have litter on your beaches!

Took me a while too, to understand the blue bottle. Great shot!

I am not familiar with this blue bottle, but I find our own blue bottles (flies) rather objectionable;, still, this one makes a good feature in your beach shot.

they do have their place, and as long as it is far from me I'm happy :)

Great shot. Lovely motion.

This was so interesting (for me anyway as I didn't know they were a jellyfish) - apparently sea lizards feed on the stinging cells for their own protection. You probably will disagree, but Google informs me they are rather beautiful in their own right. Fascinating!

we encountered them in sydney. i prefer them where i can see them - expired on a beach - good photographic subjects - as you demonstrate so ably here

Nice water splashes. You are lucky that your blue bottles are animals. Ours are plastic ones and their role in the food chain is to kill fish and sea turtles suffocating them.

@caterina Yes, we get those ones here as well...
@pistache Thank you kindly...they are a nuisance
@fbailey Good lord, every day is a school day ;)
@suesmith Thank you very much :)
@koalagardens Agreed ;)
@helenhall It seems that it's just us antipodeans that call these blue bottles (as well as the flies...)
@jacqbb We also have the flies but we have a habit of giving more than one thing the same name down here...economy of speech
@happypat It is a jellyfish...but we also have the fly blue bottle as well, mainly because w love to confuse people.
@joemuli Thanks very much :)
@gardencat Thanks very much - I had my rant last week about litter ;)
@shannejw That's because down here we call those jellyfish blue bottles. Confusingly, we also have the fly type of blue bottle as well...but then we do have a habit of giving the same name to several different things down here. But we all know what we mean..."chips" is a prime example as they can be hot chips or crisps

@30pics4jackiesdiamond Definitely the jelly fish...
@annied I don;t swim but I will go in to a certain depth...and it must just be us antipodeans that call these blue bottles...

Another great stormy shot. And I call 'em bluebottles too if that's of any interest.

@graemestevens That's not like you to doubt these things! Solidarity bro.

ew!! I have never heard of these blue bottle things, sounds like the kind of thing that would make me want to stay out of the water.
May 30th, 2019
@kklinck There's a lot of things that make me want to stay out of the water. See through swimming costumes not least among them.

Once in a bottle you could find a letter from a survivor, but now no one writes letters.
Great shot.

@haskar Thanks very much :)
