Here are the steps to get this shot http://365project.org/grammyn/365/2016-02-15 to what you see above!
The first three steps are in Microsoft Office Picture Manager
1 Enhance color by highlighting an almost white section of the picture.
2 Decrease saturation by 100%
3 Increase contrast by 20%
Import image into iPiccy
4 Increase Sharpness by 20%
5 Increase clarity by 15%

I tried a Gaussian Blur as Frank Hymus suggested but didn't see the advantage of it and so didn't apply it.
I am not skilled enough yet to show the steps I took but maybe before the challenge is over....
Nice work Katy! I think you've retained the vibrance of his crown really well and good job on the contrast of the face and feathers.

Good work on the processing. Also good shot of the hen. Critters usually aren't still long enough for a good shot. You have to be quick.
