Return of Frogmato: Homage To Jason

Jason Daniels, a prolific photographer of Papua New Guinea, had a bad day one day and photographed a tree frog on a tomato. It was a stellar shot and inspired a frenzy on 365 of frogs and other animals on tomatoes and fruits. He even motivated the creation of T-shirts, or virtual T-shirts I was never sure which, to wear of the ubiquitous "Frogmato" l can't think of a more fitting day to bring it back than April Fool's Day. No this is not Photoshopped. It is two frogs on a tomato. Well, technically, one frog on a tomato and another frog on the frog that is on the tomato.

OMGosh I remember Frogmato madness on the site. Did you get these frogs to pose on top of the tomato? I just can't imagine trying to setup this shot!

You will have to divulge how you did this - a tomato growing frog whisperer?
April 2nd, 2016
Hahaha Oh God I remember Forgmato so well! Some really good days! Is Jason no longer on 365? This is such an excellent shot it deserves Top 20! How did you get them to comply? Crazy good!!

Congrats on PP, Katy. I too would like to know how you did this. I prefer to think @maggiemae has the answer.

I remember a photo of yours with one frog on a tomato but never two, did you set this up? By the way, I probably missed something. What is the heart and dad on the bottom of your posts for? I know you lost your Mom. Is your Dad doing ok? FAV

April 3rd, 2016
ha ha ha I remember frogmato! This is so great to have two!! fav.
April 3rd, 2016
pretty funny (how can you tell if this isn't toadmato?) Are they your pets?
April 3rd, 2016
@lesip @froggie0628 @linnypinny @darylo @maggiemae @dishaparekh176 @bill_fe @vstap @eudora @darsphotos @taffy @egad First of all thank you one and all for your fabulous comments and FAVs. Jason isn't postiing anymore but does look in from time to time so I hope he sees this. Several of you asked how this was done so I will tell you. First, you get a tomato. Then you find two frogs (toads are frogs too) that are performing amplexus (look it up) and balance them on the tomato. Then you start shooting, placing them back on the tomato if they fall off until you have the desired images. Crop and increase contrast a bit if necessary and post on 365. Easy peasy. ANYONE can do it.

@francoise I must have been typing my response when you commented. See above. Thanks Francoise. Not my pets.
April 3rd, 2016
Not easy peasy when the only frogs you know are absolutely miles away and dive deep the moment they see a shadow!
April 3rd, 2016
@maggiemae LOL! Well....there is that!
April 3rd, 2016
@grammyn LOL my frogs in the pond barely let me see then (plop, plop) let alone touch them .........
April 4th, 2016
What is this magical scene... Im afraid not everyone can do it, like, theoretically under all of these conditions it can be done, but, you know, conditions...
April 4th, 2016
the frogs look bored, don't know if the tomato has to do with it or the matng or the photographing of their mating. tee-hee! this is almost x-rated! :-)
April 4th, 2016
Oh I remember Frogmato, miss Jason's contributions here, he had such a fascinating life and his photos were amazing - as is this one by the way!
April 8th, 2016
@lesip wass wrong with you girl?! i can't believe with all the squirrel raccoon and bird shots you get that you haven't trained those frogs yet!!!
April 9th, 2016
@kandkids LOL! Well i guess I am thankful to have all the right conditions then!
April 9th, 2016
@summerfield Probably shoud be X rated but perhaps we could pretend they are just playing leap frog? They do look rather bored with the whole thing but right AFTER l took this I think I saw him wink at me!

@judithdeacon Thanks Judith and i miss @bobfoto and his spectacular pictures and narratives too.
April 9th, 2016
I do not remember Frogmato but I can see how it caught on. Even in your photo there's something so intriguing about a frog on a tomato. Maybe it's the sheer random weirdness of it all! Very fun photo Katy!
April 9th, 2016
@cjphoto Jason @bobfoto posted the first one in November of 2011 and I think that "sheer randome weirdness" of it is what made it take off. Thanks for taking the time to catch up Chris.
April 11th, 2016
