"Male carpenter bees are quite aggressive, often hovering in front of people who are around the nests. The males are quite harmless, however, since they lack stingers. Female carpenter bees can inflict a painful sting but seldom will unless they are handled or molested."

Excellent macro shot! I didn't know that the male carpenter bees lacked stingers. I probably wasted a lot of time avoiding them--but who knows what gender they were!
examining this allegedly molested bee, looks like it's wearing a helmet, or it might be a robot bee. :-) still browsing through law books for molestation of bees.
