This morning I looked out at my sunflowers and they had all disappeared! When I looked more closely this one was on the ground, stalk bent but not broken. There was no sign at all of any part of the other three blooms except for one broken stalk. I carefully propped this one back up in hopes it will continue to grow and took a picture of it in case it doesn't make it!
I think they get too heavy. I figured after the storm we had Friday evening early I'd look out and see some of the biggest ones lying flat. No. But the next day, noticed a few shorter ones tilting. I had one that was propped up and it continued to bloom last summer.
I'm glad this one survived. It sure sounds like something ate the others- but what? Or do you have folks who might wander in your yard and take something like a sunflower when no one was looking? Very strange- but this one is looking as good as ever propped up so maybe it will survive. Great colors!
@louannwarren@randystreat@dutchothotmailcom@eudora@lesip@sdutoit@777margo@tunia@zambianlass@olivetreeann We don't have deer in the yard because of the dogs and it is my back yard so, no people trespassing that might want to steal one. Not too much rain to destroy them but enough to keep them growing. I am thinking some kind of animal that likes to eat the bloom and the seed although they weren't really mature either. I may never know. For now thank you for all the nice comments and FAVS and trying to help solve the mystery!
Oh no, that's really sad. How disappointing. Glad this one was still around and hopefully it survives and you'll get more flowers to bloom too. It really is a bight cheerful shot too despite what happened.
@homeschoolmom probably not deer as we have dogs the discourage them in our back yard @cjphoto so far it is surviving but got knocked over by wind in a recent storm so is looking less than perfect now thanks Chris
