She has always been a winner to me but it is official, she is the county winner of DYW which used to be Junior Miss. The state competition will be in January, although it is going to be virtual, and she is busy preparing for the many elements of the program. Today she was videotaping her talent portion of the competition. I was thrilled to be allowed to watch.

Congratulations to your granddaughter- I am sure she will represent both her family and her community to the utmost! This is a beautiful portrait.
As for my granddaughter and her "backyard" production of the Wizard of Oz. It was quite impressive. The older sister of the girl who played the Scarecrow was both director, author and performer. She studied several film versions, and read the Frank L. Baum series to write her script and cast her characters. Some parents helped with the costuming and one friend recorded the songs on piano so all the main songs could be performed. It was a very impressive initiative but not surprising from a home-schooling family! A reporter from the local paper even showed up for the dress rehearsal and reviewed it.
