I kept it because I like the red white and blue of the background. Tell me what it is about it that you don't like specifically. I need to know because I'm not always good with making decisions about my photos. Thanks so much. It was really great to have an honest opinion from someone else.

love this portrait too - I cannot make a definite decision about the background

@annied thanks bunches for that, Annie. Good to know I might not be the only one that likes it.

This is just as beautiful as the black and white- but here's where the background brings it down (imho)- while the dark red sash has a nice drape to it, the blue and other section of red don't. I'm assuming the blue is a chair because it seems to slash through the red section somewhat abruptly. The blue and reds though do have nice tone and saturation to them. But the white is glaringly different and it fights for attention with her beautiful face. If it were me taking the photograph, I would eliminate the white background. Since the shot is done, I'd crop as much of it out as possible (my first choice is to crop it all the way out) or find some texture in a softer shade- cream or a very light silver/gray anything to make it stay in the background. Although red, white and blue is nicely patriotic, there is nothing in the context of this picture that makes it necessary- the subject should determine the background and she's not wearing a soldier hat or cheerleader outfit, so as nice as it is, you don't really need it. So those are my thoughts on your beautiful model!

I like the image but I would use an ND filter to darken the highlights and lighten the dark side of her face.
