A POLLANE CONE ON A QUEEN SAGO PLANT

240 / 365
This cone appears on a Queen Sago plant about twice a year. It's about 2 feet tall and will eventually dry up and fall off. I believe it has to do with the pollination of the male and female plants, but am not sure. If you look behind the cone you will see the yellow dust of one that has already died.

@alia_801 Thanks alia, still testing camera's. I took the same shot with the Nikon Coolpix P510 this morning and haven't downloaded it yet to compare to the Nikon Coolpix S9500 which this picture was taken with. I still don't like it that you have to wait a few seconds to be able to take the next picture. You don't have to do that with the other camera. Trying to make up my mind which one to keep?

@gerry Thanks Gerry for making it a Fav. I love it when this plant puts this cone, as I call it out twice a year. I'm going to try and find out why it does and what it's for.

Love the textural contrast between the cone and the leaves of the plant, - the cone does look quite soft and almost feathery.

@kerristephens Thanks Ketti! I'm going to post the whole plant so everyone can get the way it looks totally!

@kittikat The cone is very hard even though it looks soft. The ends of each one will stick you. It will eventually die and turn brown and fall off. I seriously need to do some research on it.
