Milk Thistle

I believe this is the bloom of a Milk Thistle plant. I saw them on the side of the road on my way home from work. Other wildflowers were nearby, but this pic was my favorite of the ones I took.
very nice!

Lovely picture. I like the high definition focus on the flower and the out of focus backgroung. The flower looks like a milk thistle but there aren't any spiky bits round it. Milk thistle has been used for hundreds of years to cure liver desease and protect the liver against toxins.

@janek Thank you for your comment. Maybe the spiky parts are all out of focus. Other pics that I took of it have spiky looking leaves, lots of points on them. Another purple wildflower that I took looks similar to this, but the flower is more compact and that one for sure is milk thistle.

@happypat Thank you! I took a very close photo of it also, probably a macro and all you could see is the purple, I decided to go with this one for the green background.

The thistles have some of my favorite flowers. Today I saw two plants that I hope are Canada thistle because the bloom is a purple (the same purple as yours) tassle that looks just like yarn. I love your photo.

Doesn't look like the thistle we had to chop out of the pasture when we were growing up. Very pretty.

@memejanetx3 It may not be milk thistle, but I think it may be some kind of thistle. There were other thistles in the area, but their flowers were not as spiky, same color though.

@meeyauw Thanks! I was not sure if it was milk thistle or not. There were some other thistles nearby, but had a slightly different look.
