Striped bird by grannysue

Striped bird

I do not know the name of this bird. It visited today with some brown headed blackbirds, sparrows and the male Cardinal.
Wonderful

What a beautiful bird, Linda. Love your photo and the detail you captured. I have never seen a bird on 365 that looks like this one not that one has not been posted. You are lucky to have so many birds at your place. FAV

I am amazed that you are living in a world full of birds. Cats must be well behaved.

It's so nice to see you back! I'm taking a break from 365 due to a recent very unexpected health issue. I hope to be returning as soon as I can. I don't have my field guide handy. Could be a female grackle. As I recall they have stripes as opposed to the males being all black. Great photo!!!

@httpgeffed @darsphotos @kerristephens @anazad511 @bkbinthecity @tonygig Thank you for your comments. A co-worker identified this as a female cowbird. The males are black with brown or bronze heads. After he identified it as a cowbird, I looked it up in my book and it does look like that is what it is.

@pyrrhula Thank you! @yaorenliu There are some cats around and I am hoping they will not catch the birds. @esox Martin, look for the female of the brown or bronze head cowbird. A co-worker said that is what it is. We have some white winged blackbirds here also, but they are very shy. I had never heard of them until they started hanging out at the feeders.

@olivetreeann @edorreandresen @happypat Thank you for your comments. It has been identified as a female cowbird. @cimes1 Carole, thank you for visiting and commenting. Hope you will be better soon. I was sick for a long time, with doctors only wanted to treat the symptoms.. I finally got the attention to one that had helped me with another problem a year or so ago. He did exploratory surgery, fixed what he found and I am feeling much better, although very tired as I have gone back to work. Hour and a half drive to work, due to traffic, hour plus to two hours drive home in evenings leave me very tired.

@grannysue I was recently "out of the blue" diagnosed with peritoneal carcinoma -- a rare condition stemming from a mild stage 1 cancer I had surgery for in 1993 - 22 yrs ago. I am so happy you found a doctor who could help you with your condition. That must have been tough for you going through all that uncertainly for such a long time. I was in the hospital for a week, got my 1st round of chemo and now at home. But will not be posting photos for awhile. I will, however, check in here from time to time to visit. Take care, Linda and I hope you get to feeling like new again. That is a long commute -- I couldn't do that!

@cimes1 Carol, I pray you will get the help you need to get better. It was a long, hard road for me to finally get help. I am not 100%, but I am at least 90 - 95% better than I was. They did remove things from my abdomen and they were not cancerous, but did cause extremely bad pain.

@grannysue Thanks, Linda. I'm happy to hear it wasn't cancerous but I can imagine the pain you had. And happy you feel so much better! My abd. pains and bulging have finally eased up a bit. I'll probably need to have surgery and then more chemo. Won't know until my next appt 4/6. Take care and I'm so glad to see you back here on 365.
