Seen on the side of the road. A wildflower in Texas known as Prickly Poppy. It had lots of pollen in the cup of the bloom. Taken yesterday.
Edit to add information on this plant: It is a different genus than the opium poppy. Argemone albiflora spp. texana is the scientific name. https://npsot.org/wp/story/2011/1936/
White Prickly Poppy, Argemone albiflora spp. texana, can be found from Northern Arkansas & Southern Missouri to Texas. In the southern & western parts of Texas a Rose Prickly Poppy can be found with blooms in shades of pink and lavender. Further south and down into Mexico the Mexican Prickly Poppy can be seen with its distinctive yellow blooms.
Thank you for viewing, your comments and the fav's on my other photos. I appreciate you!
@d4daveshep Thank you. I have several lenses that I use, but for this particular shot and the one of the foal, the only one I had with me was my Canon 55-250. It does not like to get very close and I have to work at it to find where it will take a close up of something. I really was not very close to the flower. I had left my other camera and bags at home. I have wanted a "nifty fifty" for years for super close ups, but do not have one.
@bruni Thank you. It is not the same as the opium poppy, it is from a different genus. There are other colors in various North American locations, the White Prickly Poppy is the one found in my area. Here is some info on this White Prickly Poppy:
