A Coyote we encountered on our hike today in Glacier National Park, Montana. We held very still while he walked down the trail towards us, and he got distracted by something in the brush and he started stalking it, very cat-like!
All of the wild animals are trying to fatten up for the long winter, which will soon be here.
I am now selling some of my prints!

That's also very fox-like posture, I think. Ready to jump on what ever little critter is minding its own business in the bush. You framed the shot beautifully, the composition is great. Looks more like a wild animal in this shot than in the other one. :)
I prefer this one too, I think its because its more natural with the backdrop of trees and he looks as if he's about to chase something! Really great shot, faved! :)
@jsw0109 Thanks Jeff! @swguevin Thank you Sheila! @veg66 Thanks Joanne! @filsie65 He sure is Phil, and could care less about us being there. I think he just considers us some weird kind of very smelly sheep! :)
@clmiller Thanks so much Caren! @stude73 Thank you Sandra! @traeumerlein Thanks Lisa! We were unsure of his intent at first since he just kept coming straight at us, but when he just turned and began hunting we were more at ease :)
@joa Thanks Johanna! To be honest, we weren't sure if he was a coyote of a fox, especially because of his beautiful coat and red ears. Who knows, maybe he really is a fox! :) @louiesphotos Thanks Louie! Yes, he is very focused! His ears were definitely zoned in to something!
@newbie Haha, thanks so much Stacey! :) @pjonas Wow, that's not good Patty! Since this one was very deep in the wild, I don't think it looked at us as a threat or potential meal; he was just doing his thing! @sarajeal Thanks so much Sara! @tonygig Thank you Tony! :)
Beautiful capture. Would have worried me to death having it get that close but then with my pups it never would have made it within a mile of us due to the noise. :)
@paintdipper Thanks Junan! @cbawernsen Thanks so much Corine! @geocacheking So true Mr. T! Good thing dogs aren't allowed on the trails in Glacier Park! :)
OMG! You get to walk here!? Every day? It is gorgeous and I am jealous. And this shot....it should have about FIFTY favs! The way you caught the background for dof....it was a long way down! Aren't you scared of coyotes? Anyway...this is just amazing! Fav!
@espyetta Haha, thanks so much MaryBeth! Interesting thing about the favs; I have NEVER been this close to a wild coyote; it just doesn't happen because they are normally so shy, so I am a lot happier about this shot than my spider shots. Heck, I see spiders every day around here, but a coyote? I guess people like spiders more than they care to admit! LOL
@grizzlysghost I think they hate spiders, but love the FUNKY effect they get of being "tiny" on that pink flower petal...as if they were THERE! While people may not see this scene of coyote on mountain ever in their lives, it is at least something they WOULD see if walking there. But in macro work, people see a view they would NEVER see!
@swguevin Thank you Sheila!
