ISS Aurora by grizzlysghost

ISS Aurora

Caught the Aurora Borealis last night (this morning?) over my favorite place in the world; Lake McDonald, Glacier National Park.

I'm in the process of sharpening over 170 images for a composite and time-lapse video, but thought I'd take a break and post this particular image showing the International Space Station (ISS) cutting across the sky. In the video you will see it streak across the sky in it's full glory! :)

If you want to catch the ISS over your skies, check out this website. Thanks for looking!

That's stunning. I'm wondering if I would be able to see the Aurora Borealis from around here. I'm further north than you are, although I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Are there nights that you know will be better for viewing it and do you chose those nights to go out? Obviously a clear night, but nights that have more activity?

This is an absolutely fascinating bit of Mother Nature. We've seen it many times in Alberta and also north of the Arctic Circle one magical night in Alaska. You really caught it in all its glory here, Aaron. FAV

@kiwichick Thanks Lesley! I think crisp, cool, clear nights are the best, but the best auroras are based on solar activity. I think there are websites that will alert you to the best viewing dates for your location, etc. I've only just started shooting them so am no expert at all :)

This is amazing! I have only stood outside and watched for ISS one time. It was magical. I was in the road at the lakehouse and these other people were walking for exercise...asked me what in the world I was doing watching the sky. I told them that in about 1 minute, ISS was flying by. They were like "right." And then it flew by. They were super amazed. It was a fun memory. This pic reminded me of that. It's a great pic! Congrats on the TT and fav
