City

1.31 pm: I took this shot through the window of a train that was riding at considerable speed and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I've been practising shooting out of trains lately and I've noticed that my shots are improving. It's pretty hard though and I still haven't found the perfect camera settings for it.

The Hague is one of the few cities in the Netherlands with a real urban feel. These highrises can be seen just before the train enters The Hague Central Station.
Great highspeed capture, you can't tell. I love your shots they are so metropolitan.

I like this shot! Den Haag is such a great place, I went to college there (for a few years). I like the buzz in this shot!

Wonderful crispness and clarity to this photo!

Great perspective with the buildings that make a frame.

Mooie foto met die bocht. In die tram heb ik ook wel een paar keer gezeten:-)

You can't tell you were on the move and you'd never get this not on a train (are following the double negatives!) so it's definitely worth all your hard work!

Great shot! I've also been practising shooting out of trains and... it's really difficult. I would love to have catched a pic like this. Well done!

When you look at this on the home page, your profile matches this quite nicely. Great lines! When I am the passenger in the car, I take photos while the car is going. It's great fun, and something to do. I can them "drive-bys"

This did turn out well for high speed through a window. I like the lines the buildings create in this shot, both vertical and horizontal.

Enjoying your pictures from the Hague lately. My husband and I are taking notes, so we can look for these spots when we visit. We have friends that live in The Hague and will be staying with them for two days of our five days in the Netherlands, Oh, and this is a very good shot, even with taking it out the window while moving. Hope you are feeling better today.

You are right, I've been to Netherlands once and the cities I knew dooesn't have the urban feeling as you well said. Neither Amsterdan, which has this romantic feeling (maybe the canals do that to it) very well captured, Judith!

Ooooh - nice angle with sweeping lines - busy skycrapers.

Very well positioned shot!
Didn't know you have an elevated trains as well. We do have them in Bangkok. Some love them, some don't. I myself quite like them:-)

I'm definitely going to The Hague next time I go to the Netherlands! You caught so much on this pic... Lots of details in one shot, I love that and congratulations on the speed shot!

a fave

Alles aan deze foto is geslaagd, de borden, de pijlen op de weg, de tram die er net aankomt, de bocht in het spoor, het ritme van de gebouwen. Kortom: a fav!

a great shot of the city Judith. Was this hight level tram line always here or is it new? I don't remember it! love the composition of this - the focus is great seeing as you were moving!

@araminta Thanks, I can imagine you feel like that given where you live! @yoelao Thank you - this is the city I work in, my hometown is smaller and not metropolitan looking at all :)
@potsbypam Thank you! I did bump the contrast a bit to make the shot look crisper
@scatcat I've made this journey so many times that I knew exactly when to hit the button :)
@judithg Thanks! I was amazed myself by the lack of motion in this shot.
@rich57 Thank you, and I love the word cityscape!
@fergoso Thanks, I had a lot of practise and that is definitely needed!
@5unflow3r I do that as well! I absolutely love on the road shots :)

@shantwin Those buildings have been placed there very well I think!
@flygirl The Hague has some lovely spots! It's quite an interesting city.
@deniseescovino The center of Amsterdam is definitely very romantic looking with the canals and stuff! But other parts of Amsterdam are very modern and urban, e.g. the Zuidas.
@thebluegnu Thanks, being on the train gave me a good vantage point!
@viranod We hardly have any elevated trains - I think only in The Hague and Rotterdam, possibly Amsterdam too. This one is very new. I really like them as they remind me of New York :)
@masha16 Thank you! The Hague is definitely worth a visit!
@becksesme Thanks so much, also for fav'ing :) @jodimuli Thank you!
@sparkle It's very new! It's part of Randstad Rail (a lightrail network) which has been in use since 2006.

Neat depiction of the city life! I like your particular view/angle/perspective. :)
March 19th, 2011
@elisabeth Thanks! I was lucky that the other train appeared just when my own train was passing by.
March 20th, 2011
Oh my goodness. I didn't realize you were on a train as well. Even more impressive! Ha :)
March 20th, 2011
