Under the boardwalk. by happypat

Under the boardwalk.

Took this shot underneath Central pier. The pier was opened on 30th May 1868 & it is now 339 meters long. The structure is cast iron with a wooden decking. The Ferris wheel was added in 1990 & is 33 meters high. The centre of the pier had to be strengthened especially. There have been two fires one in 1964 & the other in 1973. There are various amusements, a theatre, bars etc but at the pier head it is quite unusually quiet with just seats & a rather bizarre mini gravestone with artificial flowers in memory of a young man who I presume drowned. I quite liked the evening suns rays filtering through the iron work here ! We are out until late tonight so please excuse no comments until we get in !!
The lighting is wonderful, casting a nice warm glow

This is just lovely Pat you were there at the right time of day. Amazing isn't it how different, things look at different times of day.

It's lovely. Love the contrasts and the figures in the distance. And interesting to get the historical info. Every picture has its own story .......

Well done, Pat! Marvelous flare ~ and the way the pilings are silhouetted makes for a great composition.

Piers make beautiful subjects for photos Pat and you've done a beautiful job here.

In fact I think there are two great images to be had from this scene,. You could do a crop below the sun and have a beautiful letterbox of the pier, sand and a tiny bit of sky :)

Fabulous flare of the setting sun Pat. Love the lines and the history lesson. I'm now singing that song in my head. Beaches was a favourite movie of ours when my girls were growing up.

@murnane Mine too that's why it came to mind!

It all looks pretty solid, despite the fires. That's quite a flare, Pat, I hope you didn't hurt your eyes if it was taken with a viewfinder.
