This lovely lady called Zena & her family are staying with me tonight & they are on their way back from Gleneagles in Scotland.
She is 100 years old on the 9th October !!! Such a sharp lady , standing upright & very alert with everything going on around her.
They stayed on their way up last Sunday & it was lovely to hear all the celebrations that the hotel had put on for her. Hers is a special story because during the war when Gleneagles was a hospital she met her husband there & this was her first trip back to see the whole area where she used to live.
She had a lovely afternoon tea & champagne & the hotel arranged a photographer from the local paper & a birthday goody bag !!!
She is a delight to meet !!!
I took this photo as she was on her way out for a meal with her family tonight. On Sunday evening they even went to the illuminations after travelling up from London !!
Wow - she looks good. And what a lot of stamina too - travelling is hard work when you get older. Good on Gleneagles - and they obviously have an eye on some good publicity! Mind you, the Illuminations are very exciting.... Looking forward to some pics Pat - I bet they are a devil to photograph!
@judithg Yes good thought Judith never considered going to photo the lights !! Mind you they're not what they were...hardly any moving ones & also they are only on up to 10.30pm during the week, saving electric !!! Zena has loads of stamina !!!
I agree with @judithg ~ unbelievable stamina for a centenarian! At the rate this sweet lady is going she'll be around for quite some time and enjoying every minute of it!
Saving electricity??? I think that may be sticking a bandaid on a severed limb!! My favourites were always the trams although my parents made a big mistake and let us ride in one one year - the insides really shatter the spell!
What an absolutely beautiful photo that shows such a charming face! I just went to a friend's 100th birthday on the 10th... Seems there's a lot to look forward to if we're fortunate!
@Weezilou Zena was up this morning in the dining room doing her exercises beside the chair !!! There is hope for us all !!! I think the secret is of course good health & an interest in life. She also still lives on her own !!!
