After I had been food shopping I parked the car at Sainsburys & had a quick walk down the tow path on the canal. The boats were all frozen into the ice although it was melting a bit in places. The temperature is about -5c so cold but no wind which makes it quite pleasant for a walk.
Love those patterns on the water! I was surprised to find our river freezing up (it flows fairly fast so it doesn't often freeze) but you're right it's because it doesn't feel too bad in the sunshine. Lovely
I too was struck by the patterns on the water . . very interesting. Lovely color and shadows on here. Great lighting on the boats. Wonderful catch, Pat. I never see much of anything when I shop for groceries. :)
BTW Pat - should I be doing anything special with my hens in this cold weather? I let them cuddle up in the nest box together but should I be covering up the henhouse to keep it warm? Thanks!!
@judithg Well Harry hasn't done anything special with ours. They are out during the day & then all perched huddled up on the perches at night. Their water is usually frozen over in the morning but we thaw it out & that's it. The egg production has dropped somewhat but the days are short which affects that of course.
Been out for another meal tonight & notice I am all behind commenting again !!
Looking pretty chilly up there Pat - our anal stretch wasn't frozen today, I think we're a few degrees warmer down here, but I expect some frozen bits tomorrow when I go for my run!! Really like the light and how you've captured this - great shot
@sparkle Your what's not frozen Juliette?!
Thanks Pat - I suppose the wild birds cope but I read somewhere they can get frostbite! Hope you had a fun night - bet you're worn out with all this gadding!
That's incredible...you all are really in a deep freeze over there! And we're still in the middle of crazy spring like weather with no winter to speak of. Stay warm! @judithg I'm glad Juliette isn't suffering too much with the cold snap. :)
I does look like a bit of fuel spillage in the canal or it could just be the vagaries of the melting ice in part. it looks a crisp day for a walk, and if there's no icy wind, all the better. Oooh but it was cold last night in Staffordshire! I think all the icy winds came here.
How this I miss this canal shot. I spent a week several years ago on my relative's 50 canal barge. It was so relaxing and lovely. I always wondered how many people fall into these canal every year? There were never any hand rails to stop it.

@sparkle lol at your typo.
