Preston Guild is celebrated every 20 years & today was the |Community procession.
I positioned myself on the corner by the Harris Museum & took lots of photos but didn't like any of them! The light seemed to be in the wrong place & of course you don't notice until you upload them.
Luckily I moved on later & this photo turned out much better.
@judithg might notice the top of the old Booths in Fishergate behind this float !
I was frozen & my fingers were numb, could hardly press the shutter so I had to go into a ladies clothes shop to warm up... that's my excuse anyway!!!
Oooh look!!! That one's colourfula nd I know just where it's taken. I was out walking dogs with Rebecca Patterson today (the book lady) and she's from Bolton so we were talking about Preston Guild. She's a silent 365 stalker so she knew who happypat was when I said I was hoping you'd be posting! She is very funny and we had a hilarious chat that went from Preston Guild to Blackpool Illuminations (inside of trams - a big disappointment) to Bonfire Night and the warnings we used to get from visiting policemen. Made me homesick!
@judithg How great that is Judith, the wonders of 365...say hello from me to Rebecca! I thought of you today & could have done with you standing next to me as I got the complete wrong setting for my camera so every thing near was blurred, I was so carried away with the events I forgot to keep altering settings as I have been doing. Pictures turned out much better from a distance. Well I am glad you two northern lassies had a good chat!!!
@happypat BTW Max really likes Rebecca's book The Deep End..thought I might buy My Big Shouting Day before I go to NZ ,...the terrible twos & all that!!!
@happypat I'd have stuck it on Auto Pat for an exciting occasion like that! (And tried to remember to clean the lens). I may have gone for manual focus if I was having trouble with the camera focussing on the wrong thing but I'd be no good on manual settings with all the drama going on. I'd have loved to have been standing beside you though!!
I've heard all about the Preston Guild and it's nice to see it supported well, especially when it's just once every 20 years! I like this colourful, busy shot.
@judithg When I put it on auto the flash jumps up & I am not used to using flash, if I turn the dial to the sign that says no flash, the next one on, is that still in auto?
Yep - I never use the flash one. The one without the flash is fully auto then P is mostly auto but you can alter things like knocking the exposure up or down a bit. I use the non-flash setting mostly but I also use P, Av and Tv if I'm going for something specific.
@judithg Thanks Judith now I know & unfortunately I was on AV today which worked well in some photos but not in others...you live & learn. Thank for your help!!
How festive and colorful. You've captured the celebration quite well, Pat! @judithg Harper loves "My No No No Day"! And on Max's recommendation I'll have to order "The Deep End". :)
