Peaks. by happypat

Peaks.

If I had any fore thought I would have bought some little figures to put on this mini mountain!
This is a Romanesco Broccoli which I have never cooked or eaten before, apparently it cooks quicker than an ordinary white cauliflower so we shall try it tonight
I will rephrase that ....I will try it tonight, Harry will take one look & say no thank you!!!

I only bought it for the photo!!

Three good things:
1. Lamb shoulder has been in the oven all afternoon.
2. A very mild day & it has finally stopped raining.
3. I am reading a rather funny book by the author of A Misremembered Man which I enjoyed tremendously...not for everyone but it was very quirky.
So cool! Let us know what it's like so we know whether to try it.
Love the photo - so minimalist! Neat texture and amazing focus.

Great shot of that veggie mountain. What an interesting subject to photograph and I'll be interested to know how it tastes.

Oooo , lamb shoulder, lucky everybody in your household! I think I've seen this broccoli in purple at the market, too. Fine detail in your shot.

@farmreporter @suesmith @quietpurplehaze @beryl @pistonbroke @lucypics
Well we have eaten it & I say WE Harry decided he would try it & it did taste much like a milder version of the ordinary cauliflower. I managed by a fluke to cook it perfectly..it went in the pan with some broccoli & they both cooked at the same time. The only thing harry said he didn't like the look of it much but that is just unfamiliarity.

I am sure it would look amazing cooked with a bit more flare & imagination....purple one next??

Yes Lucy lamb in the Aga....delicious it was too! None of your pink stuff in this house!!

It's not just me that buys weird and wonderful things simply to photo then? lol... great textures =)

Lovely simple shot - how can it be milder than cauli - surely one of the most tasteless veggies out (not a fan)

This is broccoli??? It's beautiful! I've never seen Romanesco broccoli, but I will certainly keep an eye out for it. Maybe Whole Foods would have it. I checked the nutritional value - super source of carotene, Vitamin C and zinc. This photo is fabulous, Pat! And thanks for the introduction to a new veggie.

October 21st, 2013
@annemary I so agree Anne Mary it was pretty tasteless but i liked the texture...better with a cheese sauce perhaps....I won't be rushing out to buy another too soon but it looked OK on the plate!
October 21st, 2013
@phil_howcroft £1 Phil & it tasted quite good considering it's colour!

Beautiful and looks yummy
October 21st, 2013
Hope you enjoyed it - this is one of my favourite vegetables, both to eat and to look at! But my kids have never forgiven me for telling them it was special broccoli - their gain - they'd have never have touched it if I'd told them it was cauliflower and they love it too!
October 21st, 2013
@taz_o I was surprised it was called a broccoli as it is sold as a cauliflower in Booths...a cross between perhaps......you have to hood wink family sometimes!!
October 21st, 2013
Fav... wow! Very cool! The colour and texture are wonderful!
October 21st, 2013
Wonderful shot of a very photogenic vegetable. I used to have a veg box delivered - before the allotment - with one of these in it. Peter would be the same as Harry - probably wouldn't eat it!
October 21st, 2013
I have just made roasted cauliflower and it was scrumptious!!! I might have to get one of these - have seen them in the store (never thought to buy one to photograph though! Love your shot!), i bet it would roast nicely - a spritz of olive oil on the sheet, the cauliflower florets, a spritz of olive oil, some seasoned salt and pepper, high heat in the oven for a half an hour. Oh yum. This veggie looks like a Dr. Seuss!!!

Have never seen this before. I am sure I would enjoy it though
October 22nd, 2013

Such an amazing looking vegetable I have often admired it but always left it on the shelf! Lovely shot of your green mountain.
October 22nd, 2013
@andreajoy super easy - you can google a recipe if you need more specific instructions. :) I hope you try it, it's a nice, nutty flavor.
October 22nd, 2013
This is a great shot of this rather intriguing veg! It looks like a mini coniferous forest!

October 23rd, 2013
Fabulous shot, what a cool looking veg, I'll have to try and get one :)
October 23rd, 2013
Well it makes a very nice shot! I love this sort of veg but when I used to work periodically in the East End I used to buy strange things from the Bangladeshi market and try to work out what to do with them!
October 23rd, 2013
PP. Well done, great shot
October 23rd, 2013

I remember the first time we got one of these in our veg box - we didn't have a clue what it was - I'd never seen one before. They look quite alien don't they? But quite unassuming flavourwise if I recall correctly.
October 24th, 2013
LOL to Harry turning his nose up at interesting veg! This is a very cool one of your five. I reckon you should get 2 points for it!
October 24th, 2013
Clever POV Pat. I've never heard of this before, but I would try it!!
