Starstruck by happypat

Starstruck

I love mosses & lichens almost more than flowers & my ideal garden is one with lots of shady areas full of ferns & mosses.
I like darkish cosy areas in house & garden although the new modern open plan houses I see on programmes such as Grand designs do have great appeal for a complete change but could I actually live in one?
I love the pretty star shaped fleurettes on this pretty moss...I have no idea of its name.

Three good things:
1. The first frosty morning of the autumn.
2. Looking forward to my day in London tomorrow but hadn't realised its half term.....it wil be busy. We were going up the Shard but I left it too late to book & all slots filled! Never mind I think we will concentrate on the poppies.
3. All yesterday's washing dried & ironed.
I'm interested in cosy too and would not like an angular home full of empty space!

Such a great shot!

This is hands - down the prettiest moss I've ever seen!

A very cool shot!

We love Grand Designs. But I couldn't cope with such huge windows withoit curtains. I need to feel cosy at this time of year and shut them up and snuggle up. Enjoy your day tomorrow

Oh and I LOVE the green of this moss.

@newbank same here Ruth....I can't stand one curtains in the winter nights...soon as it goes dark they are shut! Mind you I LOVE looking in at other people's houses when they haven't got their curtains closed!!

Beautiful shapes and colours. I couldn't live in an open plan house. Surrounded by all that space. Smaller cosy rooms are my dream

Pretty colours and texture! I like the shapes too.

@happypat me too!! I'm so nosy.....

They have great shape and colour

I think we are creatures of comfort -- open-plan rooms to me are cold and character-less - no snuggly nooks and crannies !! But like you Pat ,I can not help but nose in passing houses with their curtains open in evening ! Glad your washing is done and dusted and have a great day in London tomorrow ! Now this patch of moss --I love this type -- beautiful green, with crisp spiky florettes !

@thistle @beryl seems we all like cosy but I can see the pleasures in clean lines & a big folding window on to a great patio.....ah well I think I could mix the two if given chance! We are now going up the Shard......wonder if I can cope with the height!!
October 29th, 2014
@kwind thank you Kim ....I could definitely live in your house!

Rather like the little green 'stars',

Apparently it's very busy at the poppies so you'll be wanting a bit of time there and if you can go again at dusk they play the Last Post. Did you hear some idiot art critic described it as a UKIP style memorial and was moaning about war memorials in villages not having Russian and German names on - does he not watch Downton? That would fill him in on the history!!

Beautiful star shapes. It looks a bit like saxifrage but that's not a moss. Have a great day tomorrow.

Lovely contrasting textures here

All the green stars! Very pretty seen so close up like this! It would be great if you could put ones picture on to material and make a cushion of it! This would make a great design! Hope your day in London is not too tiring!
October 29th, 2014
The moss is great and it does look like stars. I prefer cosy too! Have a great time in London.

@judithg yes I have seen the queues Judith......I think we picked a bad week! The Last a Post is at 16.55pm now but whether we will get near I dont know, We have managed to book for the Shard now at 2pm, hope it's not too scary going up!! We arent going home until 8.30 & I hope the Tower is flood lit ...there may be less crowds after the little ceremony. I read what that fool said....that's The Gaurdian for you.....I took his point about the bones a wee bit though....that would shock the system a bit!

Beautiful shot, they do look like little green stars. Love the different colours and textures of the grasses mixed with the fallen leaves.
October 29th, 2014
Lovely shot. Gordon moss man would be proud - you could join him and his pals on a bryophyte weekender!
October 29th, 2014
I'm with you on the moss and lichen front - they are magical plants, like fungi and ferns and seaweeds. Love the autumn feel to this lovely closeup.

Nice textured image and apt title! Shard is 'awesome' ... enjoy. As for open plan ... very popular with the Dutch and our house here is open plan with large windows ... I would NEVER choose it! The huge windows do allow lots of light but a beggar to keep spotless (not helped by my neighbour's 2 yr old found in my garden drawing on them with muddy fingers! Tho' she's really sweet)

@helly31 I always admire the Scandinavian houses, all that wood & triple glazing...I quite fancy a bit myself! I can see what you mean about keeping the glass clean though specially when the sun shines!
October 29th, 2014
@fueast that's the word I got when I tried to find out about this moss stuff....bryophyte ! Wouldn't mind a weekend among the mosses!
October 29th, 2014
@gerry thanks Gerry!

@onewing @snaphappi Glad you like it too..I had a different photo to put up today but there was just something about this one!
