Watching them plant the poppies was quite interesting yesterday. There were thirty volunteers planting the poppies.
First they pushed the stem in the ground & then the black centres of the poppy were hammered in place & then they put the petals on.....they were constructed in place which I was quite surprised at!
I thought they would have been ready made up & just pushed into the ground.
Thank you for all your comments in advance as I am not able to comment on yours as we are out tonight. Hot pot supper & apple pie in Heysham church hall with a folk singer from the original Houghton Weavers.
Three good things:
1. Having friends to stay.
2. Said friend is a very good handyman & he has fixed a problem we had with the plumbing.
3. Warm weather.
Oh my word I went to see Houghton Weavers once - big stars! Fascinating photo - it's going to take ages to take them away again I assume so hopefully will be able to see them on the 15th?
@judithg We are going to see Norman Prince Judith who is a great friend of the friends who are staying with us....we are treated like royalty because they think we have travelled all the way from Nottingham...they have we haven't! Reserved table & he has his hot pot with us!,,it is actually really good.......funny with nice songs.
Interesting photo marking something really quite unique and special. I didn't know that they were constructed in situ! Have you bought one? Quite a few of my friends have ordered theirs but I think they are now sold out.
I thought this was a completed event - the poppies! Perhaps they just want to carry on and on! You have such great things to go to with great food to accompany the concert affair!
I watched some being put in this evening on the News. They were put in by the grand daughter of a man killed in the 1st world war, and the father of a soldier killed in Afghanistan! Very moving
How fascinating. ....and I guess the removal process will be just as time consuming and care-full especially for the benefit of those of us, like me, who will only see one of them when it eventually arrives.
I am coming to the meet up! My train gets in at 9.30 so maybe we could meet at a cafe or something to save you hanging around at Euston.
Maybe one of those is the one that I ordered...!
