I took this shot as I wanted to show you this tiny blue flower..you can see it on the mantle piece there on the left......it was on the front of Alex's birthday card.
William & Alex our eldest grandchildren & living in NZ are 22 on the fifth so I went to the post office with their cards yesterday.
Alex's had this tiny flower on the front & it wouldn't go through the gage which deters the price of postage.
If I had left it on it would have cost an extra £4 in the cost of postage....sorry Alex, no flower!
I had to peel the envelope open & prise it off.
As I was taking the photo I thought I might as well catch my perfume bottles at the same time!
Three good things:
1. A rebate of Income Tax.....the new accountants rang today with the good news....might only be a small amount, she wasn't sure how much but better than nothing!
2. Said Accountants are on the last minute but will be ready to sign our accounts before the deadline on Saturday.
3. The third should be first but it was fascinating to see Finn walking about last night on Skype!
Pat, you are a lucky lady - ALL those perfume bottles! I hope you took a pic of that flower and sent it to Alex. I can imagine how excited you were to see Finn walking about on Skype. I do not understand folk who will not embrace technology.
@quietpurplehaze there looks a lot here Hazel but I never buy perfume much, well only the Clarins now & again. All these bottles are ancient but all smell perfectly new.....must last longer than you think! I agree about technology......you would miss so much!
Nice shot of that very expensive little fake flower.... love the perfume bottles.. got a few that I like there.. and great news on Finn walking.. well done little man
A nice idea to have a whole mantelpiece for perfume! They always have lovely shapes and fancy tops. What should I wear today? Only going to the accountants so they won't even notice!
Skype means we don't miss out!
Wonderful to see Finn taking his first steps even though he's on the other side of the world. All that perfume looks interesting Pat. Mine is almost all presents which I'm always pleased with.
What a lovely shot and a great way to capture the flower. I must have missed the day when Alex went back to NZ, as I'm not posting or commenting every day any more.
@maggiemae They look quite nice on the bedroom fireplace.... ...specially when they are clean & dusted!! Compared to some more modern bottles of perfume I think these are quite plain maggiemae!
@thistle These are pretty much all presents over the last 20 years or so....I never finish a bottle as I forget to use it! It was lovely seeing Finn walking Joyce!
A girl after my own heart Pat -- to pay £4 for that blue little blob is sacrilege !! I love your ingenuity - to there and then take it off the card I hope you treated yourself with a coffee and cake with the gained proceeds !! Great that Skype seems to have shrunk the world and enable you to see Finn's first steps !
Gorgeous photo and nice to have the little flower - you'll think of Alex every time you see it! How did she get on in Europe and is she back home in NZ now? Sorry I have been losing track!!
@sarah19 no not back in London until Sunday Sallie.....Prague at the moment then Berlin & lastly Amsterdam. You are right I will think of her when I see her lost flower!
@beryl I was shocked when she told me I can tell you Beryl! The worst thing was too that I asked for some sellotape & they said they had none.....too tight to have a roll of sellotape for people to use! Luckily I had bought the card from M&S which have self sticking envelopes.
At least Alex will now get to see the flower that should have been on the card.
I love Skype. We Skype our grandkids regularly as they live in Victoria (about 1000 km away).
@happypat Ooh Pat --you make me laugh which is good for the soul !! Of course they would not make things easy for you and help you evade paying the extra £4 !! Grrrrh !!!
one of your three good things should be a sense of smell, perfume is no good with out it ! I used to have an accountant that was last minute, but we ditched them, the one we use now is brill and in Lancaster should you be interested . I like to be organised, although you would not believe it if you saw my house, and I could not bear to be on last minute with the tax man
@pinkpaintpot you are like me then Linda, it's been doing my head in being so last minute. We were originally with a large firm of accountants based in Blackburn who were very organised & well ahead of time but when we retired we decided to come closer to home. We only went with the new ones this time so can't change again & to be honest they do our daughters & in laws tax & they saved them so much money so I am hopeful! Apparently she told me this morning one of their competitors retired & they got to take on all his clients hence the delay! All will be well & we certainly aren't paying any £100 fines!
Love this wonderful vignette of perfume and tiny bluebell blossom. I can not believe it would have increased the cost of postage by $6US! Postage rates are out of control. Guess they have to make up for lost revenue created by email and other electronic transfers.
And speaking of technology, how wonderful that you were able to see Finn toddling about via Skype!!!
@andreajoy I have no idea Andrea...I am a bit at a loss this time with all the goings on....not as good as last time I think. NZ rang in the middle of last Monday's episode so I have to watch the recording. Lots of complaints here about all the finer details being wrong such as the judge is wearing a barristers wig etc! Court protocol is all wrong too apparently...who cares it's made up for goodness sake!
@peggysirk Apparently it made the envelope too fat Peggy! Whatever next I wonder! You could be right about regaining costs due to less custom! Skype is a wonderful thing....I know Max remembers me but Finn was only 3 months old when I saw him last year but he knows our faces now & smiles & waves which will be wonderful when they come over in May.
I sent Christmas cards of Rudolf with a stuck on red nose one year and I got the post office to check the thickness before I sent them - and then the family all rang up to complain they'd had to pay £1.27 for excess postage!
Special first steps - wonderful Skype!
@happypat well you are right. I comment when I see crime scenes contaminated in Midsummer Murders lol.
We are still enjoying the 2nd series. No complaints so far.👍
Love to see perfume bottles. I never wear perfume but collect the bottles. Have all sorts from old to new, expensive and cheaper. Biggest problem is finding a home for them, do have some cabinets. Postage is ridiculous now. Had
Continuing, it escaped! Had to pay £4 to send a birthday card to Canada that was a large letter size. Just a smidge bigger than the slot, so was charged as small parcel!
