As I was walking down from Orrest Head yesterday I knelt down to get a better angle of this lovely tunnel of trees & blow me if round the corner didn't come this cyclist at just the right moment.
I picked Harry up at the auction mart after his speed awareness course & what a motley crew coming out they were too!
Lots of young women, a fair few older chaps like Harry & surprisingly at the tail end a women on two sticks & lastly a woman on a motorised scooter!
Three good things:
1. Watching the Davis Cup from Glasgow...such a tremendous atmosphere!
2. A Spring day.
2. I have just finished a great book by Sarah Waters called The Paying Guests. A fairly slow start but it builds into such a tense climax, she is a very accomplished writer.
A lovely shot -- a beautiful and interesting country lane -- the type I would have loved to walk along !! with the great overhanging trees and the stunning great stone walls -- --I love the curve built to the top of the wall on the right -- great craftmanship of an earlier era ! When you said you knelt down -I thought you were going to say you had difficulty in getting up before the cyclist came upon you -- but then you are still nimble !! A super bonus for you to get a cyclist appearing in the well lit area at the far end of the lane - FAV.
Like you I am watching the tennis --- super games and atmosphere
@beryl Thank you Beryl. This is the path that winds through the woods for 423 feet to the top. It gets really quite steep as you climb up stone steps to the summit. I was quite puffed when I got to the top I can tell you. It was windy too...I nearly over balanced on the rocky top! I had a chat toman old guy with a dog who lived in Windermere & had sixteen different walks with his little Jack Russel dog. The walls were amazing ....more of them at a later date I'm sure! The tennis pair did so well against the world champions! Thank for the fave!
The cyclist is nicely in focus so your DOF is exactly right. All these people with Jack Russells - they just have to walk! Remind me not to get one. Its great to see the tunnel and the stone wall so strongly built and the fact that it is a public trail! That book sounds good - rather expensive in the kindle version though. Might wait till it gets cheaper.
@maggiemae it was expensive maggiemae but I made the mistake of getting a sample & as I hadn't bought one for ages I indulged! Not for everyone though as its lesbian based & a bit raunchy in places but a real gripping novel & page turner. I got up in the night a few nights a go & couldn't put it down!
@maggiemae Ooh didn't see this till now.....I hope younwill find it as good as I did! Interestingly the mother of the main character is only 54 & acts like an old women in the book...truly how times have changed!
What a beautiful country lane. Fav
Sarah Waters is a favourite author. I read 'Tipping the Velvet' and 'The Night Watch' (it's about World War II). 'The Paying Guests' is at my have-to-read-list.
@gijsje oh great to have a bit of feedback Bep...I fancied Fingersmith next...that's got great reviews too! She writes very well doesn't she? Thank you for your fave too, very kind!
@fullcircle@sailingmusic Thank you Cindy & Myrna.....it looks a lovely ride along this bit but I'm not sure how far he got as it was really steep further up......very picturesque though!
A fab bike shot Pat! I've got Paying Guests on my Kindle (I started with a sample and then bought it). I like Sarah Waters. But I am being good and reading book club Grayson Perry first - also good!
