I had a quick run into Blackpool last night after all.....couldn't let that photo op pass me by could I?
Not quite as many cyclists as other years I don't think partly because it's so late this year & the schools are back today. There must have been hundreds out last night though of all ages. A bit disappointed with the lights...there seemed to be sections where there were no lights on at all but that's what the practice is for to iron out these glitches.
Three good things:
1. Out for our tea tonight.
2. Blackpool rock.
3. They have made a hole in the brick wall between Booths & the half finished Aldi....means we won't have to walk all the way round. I am surprised as Its Booths free car park ! Perhaps it's a mistake!
This is a great shot, Pat. I haven't been to Blackpool since I was a small child and have never seen the lights. I think it should be on my bucket list. What's the story behind the bikes?
@susiemc Well it's a practice run for putting on the lights of Blackpool illuminations Sue. They are switched on this Friday so every year on the Tuesday before they close to promenade to all traffic from 7 pm & hundreds come on their bikes to ride the lights. There are prams, scooters, roller skates but mostly bikes of every type . Great atmosphere, we did it once but found it quite nerve racking as you had to watch your front tyre from hitting the person in front.
@judithg no I don't suppose so Judith. Just watching Stephen Fry picking coffee...I had no idea that each bean was encased in a soft fruit like a cherry!
Haven't heard of the bike ride though.
