Market Day by happypat

Market Day

Popped into Garstang today as I wanted to visit Derek's bookstall among other things.
Cathy is going to Crete at the end of the month & someone suggested she read The Island.
I used to have a copy but gave lots of my books away since I got my kindle. I only kept the ones I really liked & this can't have been one of them for some reason although I do remember the story.
Anyway I managed to pick her a copy up for peanuts!
A very busy market today as the weather is gorgeous at the moment. Very warm & no wind so all sorts lining the high street, even sofas & chairs!

We are out again for a meal tonight so won't be able to comment after 7ish.

Three good things:
1. I have fly bombed up on the third floor under the eaves. All down our lane we are plagued with cluster flies at the moment so I sent for a bulk order & we are all busy fly bombing!
2. I found a new lipstick for everyday that I like. My other has been discontinued!
3. Green seedless grapes, we like the oblong looking ones, they always seem to be sweetest!
Looks like a great stall, plenty of choice there. I hate it when my favourite lipstick gets discontinued, such a faff getting a new one! Good luck with the flies.

A great candid shot --I love to roam around street markets in the anticipation of finding some gem !! and still looking !

Some sweeping up then!... why do they do that? Discontinuing our fav lipsticks.. I have a small draw full of replacements i thought i liked at the time!

@brennieb Yes lipsticks are a very difficult thing to buy as they never are the right colour when you get them home! When you find one you like & then it's gone, not happy!

@beryl I love a market too Beryl. There was a post on FB yesterday about the top markets in the world, fab! I liked the eastern ones the best full of eastern promise but is it safe to go? Istanbul for instance!

So lovely to have such a lively market so locally! I really enjoyed The Island and even persuaded Allan to read it too! It was one of the World Book Night selection the first year I participated. Must read it again!

Great shot Pat, I could have given you the island! Great book and a visit to Spingalonga is recommended if in the area, very atmospheric when we visited 20 years ago.

Super candid.

A perfect stall to browse at. We're plagued by flies (of the bluebottle variety!) - and wasps - today too. Not sure how to deal with them.

Lovely bookstall Pat.

I always have to have a rummage when I find a bookstall.

Sounds like you had success at the market. .. Flys are what I'm not looking forward to with the change of season.
Don't you hate it when they discontinue something that you really like..

Great candid shot, love a market, Wednesday went to market with Becka and picked up 6 photography magazines for £5.Are you enjoying your new Panasonic camera?

Nice to hear about good weather instead of incessant rain! Hope it lasts a lot longer. September is supposed to be good in England! Cluster flies are a beggar to get rid of - we had them at our last residence but not here at al! Something to do with them breeding in the lawn!

Think I wouldn't get far past this market!
September 15th, 2016
@countrylassie Thanks Lesley, I did go to the library but they didn't have it & it was easier to buy from the bookstall.
September 15th, 2016
@bizziebeeme Not me Laura, still using the Olympus!
September 15th, 2016
@maggiemae Yes they breed in the soil & live off earthworms apparently. Not dirty & they don't live off food so no threat to health but just a nuisance! Too many fields round us I think!

Looks like there's lots of choices there! Great shot.

love bookstalls. Over here of course we have fly screens on all windows and doors but the big fat blowflies try to sneak in we know summer is on its way.
September 16th, 2016
Oh I love a good book stall. Haven't progressed to a Kindle yet. I still prefer a good old fashioned book.
September 16th, 2016
I could spend hours browsing at that book stall - just so relaxing to do that.
We tend to get cluster flies in the fall as well. They really are a nuisance to have around.
September 16th, 2016
I'd love to visit that book stall. It looks as if it's harbouring all sorts of treasures. Good that you found another copy.
September 16th, 2016
derek's got quite a big stall Pat :)
