Damson wine time! by happypat

Damson wine time!

Lovely fat juicy damsons, I filled my berry picking tin twice over.
I must add that the damson tree isn't ours just next doors hanging over into our field.
I had to pick quickly before they arrived back from work!
I'm sure they wouldn't mind but I felt guilty!

My berry picking tin has a long history of picking blackberries & damsons for as long as I can remember.
All my children & grandchildren will recognise it as we have picked lots of lovely fruit over the last fifty years.

Harry & I took my car in for a new screen washer today so went off into Blackpool for a potter round & our lunch out.
I took a couple of photos with my iPhone but they seem to have disappeared!

Three good things:
1. 20% of ladies jeans with my M&S Sparkle card.
2. Damsons to make damson gin with.
3. M&S collect by car facility.
haha, caught in the act! love it. Damson gin sounds delicious!

@jesperani My son in law makes the best damson gin but they won't be around next week, the damsons won't keep so I will have to make it!

Bep
Nice 'action' picture. I didn't know damsons, but thanks to google I learnt that they are plums.

Mind that ladder!! 😁
September 23rd, 2016
@gijsje Yes Bep a certain type of plum.

Hilarious! Love it!

Farmer George's Grandfather use to grow Dawson by the truck load and make jam never knew there was the gonna option .. sounds a lot better idea...

Damsons and greengages - favourite 'old-fashioned' fruit that it's hard to find in the shops nowadays. Lucky you, having access to a damson tree. It looks a bit precarious though!

@julzmaioro damson jam is very nice as is a damson pie but until you e tasted damson gin you haven't lived! Look up the recipe Julz, really easy to make. It's more like a liqueur but very wonderful. We need the gin rather than the jam & pie at our ages!!

Best try and get my hands on some Damsons.. or you may need to bring some gin over when you come..
September 23rd, 2016
@jmj Well Harry was there & I didn't reach up too high as damson trees aren't known for their strong branches are they?
September 23rd, 2016
@julzmaioro You will have to wait until next autumn now to pick damsons! Could bring some over in a wee bottle in my suitcase next time if I remember!

You be careful on that stepladder, you have form!! Damson gin sounds great. We were given a lot of damsons a couple of years ago and made damson vodka. It was amazing!
September 23rd, 2016
Great that you are making sure those damsons don't go to waste! Nice pic ( pick)
September 23rd, 2016
For some unknown reason I felt a little nervous seeing you up a step ladder......
September 23rd, 2016
@susiemc Ha ha Sue, I certainly do this year, it did pass through my mind! You can see my knees gripping the step!
September 23rd, 2016
Damson jam is just divine. A lady who came to the day centre I worked at in my 20's made the best jam! Never had gin though!
September 23rd, 2016
We have hardly any on our tree this year, but I know a fella who does..i do damson gin ..and a damson port...the longer you keep it the better it gets.
September 23rd, 2016
Apparently if fruit hangs over the fence into your yard, it is quite legal and acceptable to take it! I like the sound of Damson Gin but no climbing up ladders after the partaking of!
September 23rd, 2016
@maggiemae No indeed maggie! This tree overhung his parking spot so was reluctant to be seen dangling over his drive nicking his fruit! Actually he wouldn't have minded & im sure I had every right to pick them.
September 23rd, 2016
@brennieb Never tried the port, I have some port that I alway forget to drink so might try that too this year.
September 23rd, 2016
@newbank You don't know what you missed Ruth, goes quite syrupy & you only drink a small glass as in sherry.
September 23rd, 2016
@dide Pick pic!
September 23rd, 2016
@alinz You have right to be nervous.....I was slightly nervous myself with my luck this year!
September 23rd, 2016
Ha ha ! I have heard of apple scrumping ,but damsons scrumping !! Glad you got down off the steps safely ! Love damsons- jam , pies and puddings and Mum and dad used to make pickled damsons -- beautiful with hams and cold meats and of course Damson jin -- gorgeous ! !
Have a grand weekend !

@beryl Thanks Beryl, same to you! Nothing special on just a couple of B&Bers in.
September 23rd, 2016
Careful on that ladder! Sounds like you got quite haul... good work!
September 23rd, 2016
Damson gin sounds nice. My neighbour enjoys the plums on our tree as it hangs over his side too. Lovely capture
September 23rd, 2016
I have no idea what damsons look like or taste like but it does sound and look like you had a good 'gathering' adventure. I like the idea of home made gin though.
September 24th, 2016
Haha, you do look a little bit guilty... but I'm sure the results will be worth the scrumping!
September 24th, 2016
Caught in the act, are we going to see you on Crimestoppers. I guess I will have to start baking the cake with a file in it.
September 24th, 2016
a fine balancing act on those step ladders Pat.
don;t let the health and safety police see you :)
September 24th, 2016
Be careful!
September 25th, 2016
