Preston has some lovely old buildings & the Flag Market is surrounded by impressive examples.
On the right is the Harris Museum, in the centre is the old Post Office unfortunately like all post offices now moved to W.H.Smith. I think this one here is up for development into offices of apartments, not sure which.
The Flag Market is used for many events, plays, wrestling, concerts, parades & I am old enough to remember the annual pot fair every August. In the next couple of days I will show you different angles of this lovely square.
I went to Toys R Us for the first time in years with the intention of buying a Britains tractor for Finn. I asked the young man where they were & he'd never heard of them! It's all Starwars & monsters these days!
Regrettable too they were playing Christmas music!!
Three good things:
1. Patient staff at M&S after I put my £20 note in the place for discarded receipts instead of the payment tray. They had to find the key to open the rubbish compartment so they could retrieve it. I won't make that mistake again!
2. An hour & a half in Waterstones....bliss!
3. I found a kitchen pan set that had the picture of a boy on the label, as the pans were for Finn I was pleased.
Great shot .. I like how you have framed the buildings with the trees..sad that you can't get traditional farm toys.. must be available somewhere surely..
I guess they used to sell flags here - or did they just display them I wonder? Toys aren't 'wot they used to be' Pat! Still they've moved on in a different way.
@jmj They have big plans for the Harris Museum Jennifer! The entrance is just to the right of this wall behind the tree but the plan to move it into the centre of the long wall on the right so it opens out onto the market square.
Having a big Square like this is very European, I might think! Something NZ doesn't seem to embrace. It is a place for people to gather and be entertained or buy - as in a market place. Got to find out who or what Waterstones is!
John picked up some great Britains models at that car boot thing on sat, one is a John Deere on an articulated lorry. Perfect condition 10 p each! bargain eh! will keep my open for you pat .. its supposed to be for Huey but at the moment it is still on the mantelpiece ha ha
@brennieb My word that's a bargain Brenda! Good hunting! Finn is only three in December but wants a proper tractor. I have just got a big surprise as my son Anthony has just put his first photo on 365 with a picture of Finn. It's raining in NZ so he can't do any fencing, must have time to share!
Such a scenic town square. I love this shot.
Maybe you could find the tractor you were looking for on Amazon...or maybe eBay. I really dislike going into mega-toy stores. So overwhelming. Love that Finn is getting cookware...Will seems to have an interest in culinary things as well. Chefs in training perhaps.
Christmas music in October?? Unbelievable.
