Mummy swan

I was amazed to see this swans nest on the canal at Salford Quays. A very public place to build that enormous nest as it's right by the walkway to the Lowry centre with people, water skiers & bikes going past thecwhole time.
There are no eggs there as yet but it looks like a resident long time nest so she's perhaps reared a family there before, just wondering where she got all those twigs to build for a start!

No need to comment just filling a diary shot.

Went to a concert at the Lowry & stayed over night at the Premier Inn.
Our wildlife are getting so much more city creatures nowadays...one they never ventured out the country and quiet places..how was the show?...

She is not very discrete, is she?

Amazing -- perhaps she doesn't like lonely places but likes to be in the thick of things to watch the world go by !!

I would imagine that the Council will come in and protect this nest. Don't want lots of people poking sticks etc at it! There seems to be three Premier Inns in Manchester....... a good night out!

@maggiemae they might do maggie as swans are a protected species in the UK. She looked a little ruffled though & as it's pretty devoid of any reeds or greenery she was pretty much pushed to build there.

It does seem a vunerable spot, but swans can be fierce. Love the sparkling water too.

Wow! I hope the babies survive in such a public spot

They get so tame so fast! Sometimes the safest place to build is in the busiest spot.

They do build their nests in some daft places. I fear for the safety of the eggs and the babies if they hatch. Keep us posted.

@susiemc well I won't see them again Sue, we were only visiting but I will be a stressful time for her I imagine.
