I took some flowers to my mums grave this afternoon. I did think I was on my own but happened to look up & saw this chap sleeping on the bench in the sun.
I took a crafty photo of him.
As I left he called me over & started chatting.
Turned out his name was Terry & he had been bought up in an orphanage in Liverpool. The old story, his mum had an affair with a chap, got pregnant, she was married so went to her sisters for a 'holiday' & had the baby adopted. It didn't work out & he ended up in a home.
I thought as he was talking ah my first stranger picture but he declined to have his photo taken! He said it was bad luck & he might die! Little did he know i had taken this one!
Three good things:
1. Out tonight, we are going for hot pot supper & then a talk by a mountaineering chap.
2. Got stocked up with library books. I love my kindle but it's working out expensive so I'm trying to save a bit by using the library.
3. Harry doesn't seem to bother I have the light on when I'm reading in bed!
Goodness you got the whole life story.. guess it was a good place to have a lip... locals were not going to bother him.. like how you have caught the reflection in the grave stone..
Great sneaky shot Pat At least he proved to you that he was alive ( jinked or not - if only he knew !! ) and he was just enjoying the sun !! I wonder how many of these sob stories are true ! - yet you must feel sorry for the like !! Enjoy your hot pot supper - something warm in this cold spell !
lovely story. When I worked in the police many years ago I had a few "locals" who liked chatting. Turned out he had been a millionaire, his house was broken into and the burglars hit him over the head with a glass vase. He lost everything, all his money, his family, his house, EVERYTHING. I checked his story and felt so sorry for him. But he used to get a warm lunch and a cup of tea from me every day I worked in that area.
I do wonder how you were able to leave the conversation! Perhaps a "good luck' sufficed? The cemetery might have been a place where he would not be moved on - or maybe he communicated with the spirits!
I really enjoyed hearing his. Thank you for sharing.
