The Southern Alps. by happypat

The Southern Alps.

I flew down to Christchurch from Rotorua today. I flew over these snow clad mountains, they looked amazing from above.

I am staying with Alex our granddaughter & her boyfriend for a couple of nights. The twin sister of William who recently stayed at our place in England.

Looking forward to tomorrow when I see a few winter scenes along Arthur's Pass.

Update: My grandson's been telling me that the worrying looking shapes are because cameras use a 'rolling shutter'. Apparently when you press the button to take a photo, cameras capture the image by scanning from top to bottom. But, because the propeller's moving so fast, it's moved by the time the bottom of the image is captured - creating this worrying looking effect!
Great shot of the mountains, please tell me what's happening to the airplane!

I was wondering too @jokristina obviously wasn’t the wing falling off otherwise Pat wouldn’t be posting!
Have a great time in the South Island with Alex.

Ha ha I too wondered what was happening to the plane when I saw this but I can assure you we landed in one piece! Must be a trick of the light somehow!

Thanks Jack Farrer for putting us all right! I couldn't think what it was that gave that effect!

Your trip sounds so wonderful, I knew airplane propellers were ornery to photograph, so glad to know why! Those are lovely snowy mountains.

Interesting effect, I thought you were about to drop out of the sky.
