Christchurch Cathedral

Sadly what remains of the beautiful Cathedral in Christchurch after the terrible earthquake eight years ago.

There has been no descision on what to do, whether to repair or rebuild a modern replacement. I think they have quite a fund to do something but it's still fenced round & in a state of collapse.

Opinions are decided so nothing gets done.
It was sad to see it like that.

So where have this church’s parishioners gone to church all this time? My goodness, how very sad that a decision cannot be reached.

It is so sad to see the ruin and nothing being done to it.

Our friend Lloyd's sister Adrienne who is in this photo http://365project.org/onewing/365/2018-05-20 lost her heritage listed house in Christchurch in the earthquake. It was so sad to see it reduced to rubble.

Such a tragic thing to happen there. So much loss, but of course such a common occurence in NZ to have nature rumbling one way or another. I hope they decide what to do soon. It should be restored.

So sad to see such old buildings lost, but it would take a lot of work to restore it. Maybe a compromise of old and modern could be reached?

A sorry scene. It's a long time deciding what to do about it. I thought Kos was bad not having done much since the earthquake last year.

It would cost literally millions to repair - not surprised there is controversy! Christchurch has a future though!

I'm pretty sure they have agreed to repair. It is quite a decision to make.

@maggiemae @dkbarnett I was very impressed with the centre of Christchurch, it's been beautifully restored with impressive modern buildings. A massive commitment & a very big descision whether to go modern or restore history with the cathedral, I wouldn't like to have to chose.
