Lots of you wil remember when my friend & I were in charge of the Horticultural marquee at Great Eccleston Show.
We gave it up 5 years ago, so much work, we almost lived on site for five days but my word we did enjoy it.
I have had lunch today with that friend so our days in that tent have been uppermost in my mind this afternoon.
I do say that this tent is not the same since we gave it up!! Not bragging but all the competitors say the same. Me & Dot bent over backwards to encourage entries, flattering, cajoling, plying with cake & wine & generally making it a fun experience to enter their produce. After the judging out came the celebratory pop & lots of cake got anyone who stopped by.
The new people sit there with not a smile on their faces, entries down & no fun & banter!
However the sun still goes down behind the trees year after year no matter who is in charge making lovely patterns on the roof.
Dismantling Horticultural marquee 2018
Three good things:
1. Reminiscing about days gone by.
2. First of four meals out this week.
3. Started a book that @judithg recommended. Had a sample on the kindle, liked it & ordered so now I'm in the loop of a series. Hoping I can get some at the library as not cheap on kindle.
Maisie Dobbs series.
It does look lovely.. I can imagine e the fun you would of had .. but the time comes when you have to pass things on.. @dide and I saw a movie the other day we wondered if you had seen .. Edie a good one to go to if your movie friend is up to it.. also just saw Mamamia tonight with Farmer George .. loved it .. and our local theatre was packed out..
@julzmaioro No not seen Edie come up yet but we are going to see Mama Mia tomorrow night in our new local cinema that has been returned! Well not so local now as we've moved away nineteen years ago but still local to me. Will review tomorrow!
Such a pity that the vibrancy and enthusiasm have faded since you finished at the Horticultural Marquee. It happens too often I think! And everyone feeling the same is even sadder!
Good to have your friend to share with though! Enjoy your meal out!
A lovely capture with the leaves reflecting in the sun ,making lovely patterns ! Love the hanging baskets . So much better to have ladies to cheer you along as you prepare your exhibits !
@beryl They had loads of entries for the hanging baskets this year Beryl. Surprising really as they need so much watering in the heat. Difficult to transport but they did make the tent this year.
The shadows and light on the tent’s roof are wonderful. Those hanging baskets are beautiful too. I have had the same experiences when handing conferences and events off to new people, it’s hard when you build something up and it is not treated as important as you made it! Based on this comment screen I’m going to go see Mamma Mia. I had thought it might just be the same as the last one, I’m glad to know it is worth seeing.
@louannwarren Going to see it tomorrow so will review it then. It's a slow start I believe but then rooms away! Clapping at the end in our local cinema I believe.
Those baskets are the best! Mine look like lumps of brown beside those! We had MammaMia in our town too and everybody praised it - I didn't go. Got the "Pearl Sister' in the library though - for nothing. It was too expensive way back on kindle!
@maggiemae Yes it does get expensive on the kindle, Jack reckoned up how much I had spent in a year a while back £160 I was truly shocked & have been using the library lots lately. I much prefer my kindle though. Have just started the book @judithg recommended & it's quite dear for a kindle book. Got the sample & liked it so splurged. Trouble is there are a series of them so really hoping rest are in the library or will have to go out to work!!!
Lovely shot. It is always sad when events deteriorate once the organisers change hands. Sad to see all your efforts going downhill too since the new people took over.
@maggiemae Thanks Maggie, I hadn't noticed that my computer had changed the word from Dobbs to Dobson......strange things these computers! Sometimes when I read back I don't recognise what I've written, the words are completely different to what I think I have written! Am enjoying the first one & Judith sId that was the one she least enjoyed so we shall see if I read on! You must have bought yours second hand? Books are so expensive in NZ, I am in hopes at the library! Mine on Kindle was £5 plus which is expensive for Kindle & there are lots more to look forward to!
@maggiemae sounds the same Maggie, I looked on EBay & they were available much cheaper seconhand. I will see if I like it well enough to carry on & perhaps look in library next time I go too.

I bet it was beautiful and great fun when you did it Pat. It is hard when those that follow on don't keep up your standards. The shadows and light on the tent’s roof are beautiful.
