The Christmas book by happypat

The Christmas book

That time of year again!
The lovely Christmas book that is available free in every Booths shop.
It's shrunk over the years & especially this year as I'm sure Booths are trying to cut costs.
They have been badly hit by the supermarket Aldi as has every other supermarket.
I went in Aldi before I went in Booths, they are next door to each other, their butter & lots of other stuff is so much cheaper but my word I know which shop I preferred!
Aldi was a nightmare in school holiday week, Boots was an oasis of calm & order!

Three good things:
1. I picked up 5 books one for each bedroom & a couple spare.
2. I met Cathy for lunch, she had a cancellation in the middle of her day.
3. Chicken casserole in the oven midday....lovely to come home to a meal already sorted!
Boo
looks like an interesting read...we were talking about Christmas today at work...my friend asked if it was too early to put up the tree...hahahaha

I love to browse through the Booths Christmas book and their aisles. It is a whole different shopping experience. Expensive but the occasional treat is always treasured.

Like to get ideas from these books.

@motherjane It's a great book isn't it Jane, I think on borrowed time as margins will be smaller these days! There were only a small pile in the shop compared to last years massive dusplay.

You probably know by now that we don't 'do' Christmas (!) but I find your shot very cheery!

A nicely presented book of their Christmas wares and you have captured it nicely with the candle ! I haven't been able to think Christmas yet !

Hard to believe these books were free! They must have their own printing press! I love to use my sous vide for long cooking foods - can take 8 hours but nice to do it in the morning and then all day you know you don't have to do anything!

@beryl I'm just starting to think ahead Beryl but usually just give money these days, the kids like money & to be honest I'm past thinking what people want now. Nit the same as it used to be but I do love Christmas for the good will & geting together with family.

@quietpurplehaze Well it is mostly a cheery time but if course a very sad time too for lots of people. I expect you still enjoy family time with lots of photos to take of festivities.

@maggiemae yes free, it must be very costly to them. I always love long cooked food, winter cooking is my favourite. To prepare in the morning is a great feeling!

With Amazon delivering food to the door now it has to be harder and harder for grocery stores to stay in business! Glad you had a good, busy day.

I guess the fact that Aldi was a nightmare and Booths was an oasis of calm says it all. Aldi is much more affordable for struggling families. We don’t have Booths ( I think they’re only in the north) but Waitrose is the equivalent and I love to go in there from time to time. It’s different when you’re only shopping for two.

@susiemc I go in Aldi for several things such as butter, mini icereams which Harry & I have for our pudding after evening meal many a time. The wine is cheap, we can get good NZ wine for a lower price but Booths is my favourite place to shop. They need us too as there was talk about them having to sell up but all gone quiet at the moment. Very like Waitrose I agree but they sell all local & many different lines of things. Free coffee too with a Booths card.

Ah, what a lovely sight. Booths remains my favourite, despite having none in the south. One of my best treats when I venture north west. But then again, I miss my childhood shopping, which contained no supermarkets. Just a basket you filled with goods that were unwrapped or put in paper bags with blocks of ice cream being double wrapped in newspaper. Aye me, I have gone all nostalgic!

I have never seen Booths stores but we do have Aldi here. I don't like it though. Much prefer Woolworths and Coles

@happypat I’m like you, there are certain things that we buy in Aldi but it’s not a particularly pleasant shopping experience. I go to Waitrose or M &S for that. We love to shop in Boothes when we’re in the Lake District. I hope it survives, it always seems busy whenever we’ve been.
