Heaven by happypat

Heaven

A trip into Blackpool to take a pair of shorts back to Marks & Spencer’s.
Not my favourite place in the middle of the holiday season but it’s marginally quicker driving to their Marks than Preston or Lancaster.
I shan't be going back until autumn!
I saw two elderly men fighting in the street, it was truly shocking!
They must have been in their seventies, apparently one took offence at the others dogs barking! One actually knocked the other down!
Disgraceful behaviour!

Three good things:
1. I calmed myself down by visiting Waterstones book shop!
2. The Aga man has been back....it’s not been working well since he was here but it seems hotter tonight.
3. I might be a week down the line with this cold but walking round Blackpool has worn me out! I think I will stay closer to home for a bit! Good old market town of Garstang!
Yes, that looks like my idea of heaven.

Goodness me, that sounds a shocking sight!
Waterstones is a good antidote to many ills methinks. I could lose myself in this one for hours.......

What a carry on with the old blokes.. bet you wanted to bang their heads together.. The book shop sounds like a safe haven.. I'll show you later what I'm reading.. watch this space..

Sounds quite scary! Bookshops are so peaceful.

@pandorasecho @casablanca @julzmaioro @mave

It was like another world in there....I honestly think Blackpool goes to the dogs in the summer! Out of season is best!

So good to have a Waterstones to go to calm down - Silly men - some never grow up do they and have no self respect to go and fight in a public place like that No self respect and no consideration for others ! Such a lovely shop .

We know about road rage - this must be street rage! Dogs barking is really contentious I heard one person actually shot another over this! I hope there was carpet on the floor here - to make it a safe and comfortable haven!

Sounds like a very tiring day! But a lovely photo. Funny what folks will fight over. I remember seeing a couple of French guys hitting each other at the Eurostar Terminal once - all over one of them speaking on his mobile phone. 😱

I am surprised that two elderly men were fighting, oh my. I love a good bookstore, they are a very good place to relax. Colds are so hard to get over,

I am sure I could spend a whole day browsing in this shop.
Very upsetting when you see people behaving badly.

There’s nothing like a bookstore to restore a sense of well being. Such a shame that you had to witness that ugly act of aggression. The planet seems to be off kilter with so much hostility and grievance. We need a Kindness Revolution.
A very good idea to schedule a few easy days close to home, Pat, to get your strength back to 100%. XX

When I started reading, I expected you to say that they were fighting over a lady. Ha Ha! Some people never grow up, the one should have just called the constable or police or whatever and let them handle it.
Would love to visit that bookstore, so many here have gone out of business, but we still have several Half Price Books or one Barnes and Noble if you want to drive downtown for it. It is also fun to look at books in thrift stores, sometimes one can find good books there.

Looks like a huge bookstore

Great photo....but sad two old guys getting to that point.
I wonder what is going on in their heads?
Anyway......always good to visit a bookshop. Heard Mr Waterstone on Desert Island Discs on Friday morning while travelling to Glasgow in pouring rain.....
Feels ages ago....not a hint of rain in Sorrento right now.
Go gently and hope you are soon your fit and 'busy as you want to be' self again. X

Shocking - what an aggressive age we live in! Bring back those peaceful times of the 70/80's 😘

What's not to like about Waterstones. Mr Waterstone was on Desert Island Discs last week, interesting chap! I think I can readily agree about Blackpool. It reminds me very much of Margate, only bigger!

What a peaceful haven from the disturbance in the street

@peadar Really I must listen to that! Blackpool is a strange place, I hated at first when we came to live eight miles away but I’ve got quite fond of the old place now but not in the holiday season. It’s had a lot of money spent on the sea front, the beach is great & nowhere nicer for a brisk walk in the winter but in holiday season it’s rubbish...the people are not always at their best....ok as they’re on holiday but the few times I go anyway dwindle to nothing for a few months. It’s very convenient to get to down the motorway.

@sarah19 Thanks Sallie....I had a lie in this morning, I’m surprised how a trip to town took the stuffing out of me but I did sleep well last night!! Sorrento would seem like heaven instead of Blackpool right now! 🤣. I have a choice between Lancaster, Preston & Blackpool so lots of choice if I do need a larger shopping town.

@lyndamcg Exactly right Lynda....to be honest I’ve never ever seen anyone fighting before so I was fascinated....they both deserved each other to e truthful but the one who hit was very aggressive...showing his teeth etc!

@grannysue It’s a fact that book shops did have a period of hardship here a few years ago, some went out of business but others survived. Amazon has done great harm I’m afraid but book shops have become places to visit & had to adapt to a new type of place. Waterstones is the most successful & they are busy but do people buy....I didn’t!
August 13th, 2019
@jamibann It was a barking dog in this case...I think the knocked over guy must have muttered something under his breath & the other retaliated, not a pretty sight!
August 13th, 2019
@beryl I was fascinated Beryl...something you couldn’t ignore! We lead sheltered lives in the sticks!!
August 13th, 2019
@louannwarren @onewing it was a rare sight fir me I can tell you...I just thought silly old men! Colds are the devil to get rid of....all on my chest now!
August 13th, 2019
@maggiemae b. Yes carpet here but not in street where the guy was knocked down! 🤣🤣😂
August 13th, 2019
@peggysirk Great idea Peggy...everyone seems so angry all the time, the least thing seems to set them off! If they had guns on them they would have shot each other!!😱
August 13th, 2019
@busylady @bkbinthecity @gijsje I love book shops so always pop into one when I have time. I don’t always buy as I try to use the library as often as I can & if I buy I tend to do so on my kindle...I know a bad bookshop user, I think when we get moved eventually I might start buying proper books now & again...I have decluttered but still have eight boxes of books packed away!
August 13th, 2019
Am I the only one who wishes today's photo was of the fight? 😂
Fingers crossed for tomorrow I guess...
August 13th, 2019
@aguycalledjack I thought afterwards I should have taken a photo but was too busy batching...might have got hit if they had seen me!
August 13th, 2019
Silly blokes fight on the street and causing an upset. Oh to visit that lovely bookshop!
