Taken at Dubai airport on our escape from New Zealand this week. Not that we wanted to escape but needed to get home!
Harry & I are in14 days quarantine so haven’t been out at all.
According to our neighbours our village is very quiet. The bakery has shut together with the dress shop, iron mongers, cafe & community centre.
Our small supermarket is still open as is the newsagents/off licence/post office. The veggie shop, butchers & a shop called Zero One which sells everything recyclable & organic, washing liquids, porridge oats etc etc.
On the whole I think we are doing OK. The doctors surgery is doing it’s best & I imagine the Undertakers is still open!!
From our house we haven’t noticed much difference to be honest because it’s quiet anyway so it feels much the same & we aren’t getting the same shock of empty streets such as the towns we see on the television.
Harry took this photo for a sort of diary marker. I didn’t actually wear my mask much. For one thing it kept catching my hearing aids & by the time we had queued for security, somewhere to have a drink & a sit I was past caring. So many people in that bit of the airport it was a hot bed of germs!
Thankfully we got home safely & seem to be fit & well.
@julzmaioro Well we have been told to stay at home a Julz....we are allowed out only to get provisions, one from each household, for medical reasons, or a short bout of exercise once a day. According to Ant you are only allowed out for shopping, bearing in mind you are more spread out so all of you have gardens to walk in. Mostly anyway, some of our houses in towns are very restricted that way. Over 70 shouldn’t go out at all! I see all our neighbours are staying in.
One for the album Pat ! This is in front of us for some time to come it seems Pat , This staying in for the over 70's is rather daunting , but I know necessary - Everything so quiet and still . My over the road neighbour - she was 90 a fortnight ago has been taken to her daughter in Newcastle . Although I shall miss seeing her across the road -I am so pleased she is looked after and not here relying on me and Gary ( not in nasty way- but quite a responsibility !). So now I am the custodian of the key to keep an eye an things and go in to water her kitchen windowsill plants ! Spoke to her on the phone today and she seems to have coped with the journey ! Such strange times Pat !
@beryl Yes that would be a real responsibility Beryl....glad she is safe with her daughter. You would have been watching & shopping every day! Do hope she comes back to her home when it’s all over...you wonder how this break in her normal life is going to affect her long term...will she ever be able to live alone again....so sad.
Well....I don't think I would have been able to keep that on for long either. But for those on front line in medical settings the personal protection can be vitally important.....full of admiration for every one.
Our lovely bakery here in Tain is also closed.....has branches around the north and was Baker of the Year last year. Big miss!!
Fresh air is good even if just the garden. 😊
Good that you've gotten home safe and sound. We have been in quarantine already for so long. The whole 'being elderly' label and the very real dangers associated with being older make me uncomfortable to go out at all. And it looks like this is unlikely to end anytime in the near future. Stay well.
Glad to see you're home safe and sound after your dramatic escape from the clutches of deepest, darkest NZ (lol!). Seriously though, definitely nicer to be in your own home at this time.
Its good to read what others have experience as well as you, Pat! All of our shops are closed except S'mkts. And we have been literally ordered not to go outside if we are over 70. I did think of going to the s'mot to avoid all the fuss but then thought if I brought it back, my darling husband would be compromised. So I'm going to bite the bullet and ask one friend who has offered, to shop. Apart from that John has ordered online a dozen wines, some freeze dried dinners and I have ordered a box of avocados that can all be safely delivered. Whether we wipe them all with meths is another story - I"m talking about the containers, not the couriers!
29/3/2020... lets hope no medical issues from now on!
The sign behind you! Prophetic beyond words! “A whole new experience. Coming soon.” Oh my. We ordered masks last week and because we were so late I’m sure this will all be over and gone before we receive them. I pray you and Harry will be well during and long after your quarantine.
@jgpittenger@louannwarren Isn’t that so prophetic, uncanny! Thank you Lou Ann we are well & staying home! Hope you get your masks although I don’t think many are wearing them here. Might be so in the city’s if you have to travel but more just keeping well apart from each other! I found them incredibly uncomfortable...made my glasses steam up!!
@maggiemae I like the wine order! I am finding it very hard to think what shopping I need that’s no bother to buy for our shopper. I am just jotting down stuff as I think of them but you don’t want to make a nuisance of yourself ordering things hard to s course.
Our niece rang this morning asking if I wanted anything....asked her fir a couple of things then remembered later we wanted porridge oats, rang her back but she had just come out of Booths. To go back in she would have to queue again as it’s one in one out!
I did without! If it gets worse I might order. Box from the veggie shop & an order from the butchers. How do you pay too.... we are running out of cash but can’t go out until next Tuesday & then only limited. Perhaps a card number over the phone!
Thank you all....I think we are all in the same boat except the “younger ones “ on this site can bob out...oh for a change if scene.....if I could see something through the window it would be good!! I vow to have a walk around the garden & down the field this afternoon.
Stay safe & stay home all of us!! Xxx
@dh@farmreporter Thank you both...yes it was a close call but we made it! Could have stayed with family & they wanted us to but we wanted to come home! We were lucky!
@happypat We are trying to do the same thing - exist without putting others in any danger. Ran out of matches today - bbq works to transfer the flame. One way of reimbursing is by internet banking. You don't want to give card details to anyone!

I ventured out to the supermarket at 8 am today as it opened. Not too many people around and we managed to keep a safe distance from others.
Stay safe , you will have been lucky to avoid the virus if you get to 14 days with no symptoms.

That sign in the back really is perfect for the times and memory.
