Encroaching housing by happypat

Encroaching housing

Every town & village in the land Is having to put up with large amounts of housing going up on fields that used to be used for farming.
Back Lane on the edge of our village is a case in point. Around eighteen houses are being built on the small field you can see through the gate.
Another ninety houses on the other side of the village & plans in for many more, six hundred in all we believe in the plan.
It beggars belief that the village will be almost double over the next ten years.
Farmers who are finding it hard to hard to make a living are jumping at the chance of the money especially if they are coming up to retirement age with no one wanting to follow on.

Three good things:
1. A good walk this afternoon.
2. Rhubarb crumble.
3. More viewers booked in for Friday.
Seems to be happening everywhere..What was a beautiful dairy farm is now getting developed into a satellite town with hundreds of houses.. but have not done anything about the roads leading to it that ate already congested.. crazy.

@julzmaioro Exactly no infrastructure, they promise but sometimes it never gets built. They have promised a school, medical centre, shop& garage I believe. They will have to as the village is full already. The last set of plans haven’t been passed yet so we live in hope!!

So sad to see this happening. And usually without regard to fitting into the rest of the landscape.

We seem to be further away from the countryside too. Fields where our kids used to play, are all built on now, in fact our son and family live in one of them.

Such a shame to see good farmland or vege growing land being gobbled up. Rhubarb crumble sound lovely. I made a pear, ginger and walnut crumble the other day and it was a nice flavour combination.

It happens everywhere, I'm afraid.
Goodluck #3!

As your population in the UK is 67 million as compared with our little 5 million - there is not much land to spare over there for all those people!

Little lanes through the countryside ,like this will soon be a thing of the past Pat , So sad seeing this happen - but it is happening all over Pat ,as good farming land is gobbled up .Yum , rhubarb crumble -- nice . Vera my next door neighbour handed me a bundle of rhubarb from over the fence this afternoon - so it will be rhubarb crumble here tomorrow - I like to add orange juice and rind to mine , and maybe a pinch of ginger !

This is a problem everywhere.

Nothing stays the same does it.

All the land in our little bit of Australia has been sold now and until now there has been a height limit on houses and apartments. In Nelson Bay itself though the height level has crept up for new apartments as developers cross the council's palms with silver. I hope it doesn't end up looking like the Gold Coast here.

I first felt so sad thinking of the lovely farms being sold for housing...but then you mention a yummy rhubarb crumble!!! I can’t stop thinking about it!! Yum!!

Yes, a sign of the times. Understandable, but difficult to accept gracefully. We had rhubarb from the garden last night too - but done in a tarte tatin. It was really nice - hope your crumble was too!

@phil_howcroft Well I guess so but they are having trouble selling the ones they have already built. All expensive house with the token half ownership smaller ones. There will be lots of folk struggling with mortgages sadly...perhaps new houses are on hold for now!

A very sad story which we have been experiencing for a number of years. At least your country is big and can afford some more houses; ours is very small . Considering that the population in Malta is around 450,000 and the size is around 122 sq. miles, there are around 4,000 persons per square mile.

Same happening up here.
I don't understand where all the people are coming from, and the small town facilities can't cope.
